In Genshin Impact a new event has started, where you can choose one of 6 4-star characters. We will tell you how to unlock the event and which characters are worth it.
This is the new event: In Genshin Impact, since the release of update 1.3 the Lantern Rite event is running. In the last section, you can earn one of 6 4-star characters for free in the mini-event “We stand by each other”.
Here’s how to unlock the event: To participate in the event, you first need to complete the story quest “In the Land of Monoliths” and the quest from Xiao. This gives you access to the Lantern Rite and the quest line “All That Glitters”.
Now you need to play the main quest of the event until you reach the third level of the festival. It’s called “Illumination of the Lanterns”.
To secure one of the 4 characters, you need 1,000 Peace Talismans. You earn them by mastering the challenges of the Theater of Devices.
The following characters are available for selection: Once you have collected the 1,000 talismans, you can choose one of the 6 4-star characters from Liyue:
- Xiangling
- Beidou
- Ningguang
- Xingqiu
- Chongyun
- Xinyan
What you should note: The choice is final and cannot be undone. So you should consider well which character you choose.
We have created an overview for you of the characters, their strengths and recommendations, and when each character is worth it for you.
Choose the best character for you
When selecting characters, you often have to consider their constellations or talents, which we will address in this section. So you need to see how many constellations you have unlocked with the respective character and whether the next one is significantly important to you.
Generally, however, you can hardly go wrong if:
- One of the 6 characters is still missing for you and you absolutely want him or her, simply because you like them
- You have almost completed the constellation for one of the characters and only need one or two more levels
- One character from the list fits well into your group setup and creates strong synergies. For example, if you have already pulled many strong DDs but still lack a support, Beidou would not be a good choice.
If you can’t decide, we have listed the advantages of the characters here, and you can choose the one that best fits your playstyle.
This is recommended for collectors: For you character collectors, this event is a chance to close the gaps in your collection. If you simply enjoy collecting the available characters in Genshin Impact, then you can get one of the characters you are still missing at the event.
However, one should also consider other possibilities:
- Currently, there are increased drop chances for Xinyan and Beidou in the Xiao banner.
- Starting from February 17, Ningguang will get a bonus drop rate in the next banner.
- Xiangling is obtained automatically after completing the 3rd level of the winding abyss
If several characters are missing from your list, you can choose the one that will not be in the bonus banners or available for free in the near future.
Xiangling
- Element: Pyro
- Weapon: Spear
- Role: Support, DD
This is Xiangling: Essentially, Xiangling is a good support-DD character who can deal a lot of damage with her ultimate attack while not even being on the battlefield. You can set her Pyro-Ult Fire Wheel and switch to another character for elemental combos.
For constellations, Xiangling’s 4th level is particularly valuable. It extends her burst duration by 40%, allowing the character to deal even more damage and be a good support-DD for strong Cryo or Hydro characters.
If your main DD is of the Pyro element (like Diluc), then her 1st and 6th constellations are also good, as they reduce resistance to fire.
Beidou
- Element: Electro
- Weapon: Claymore
- Role: DD
This is Beidou: Beidou can be used as both a support-DD and a main-DD. Her playstyle is heavily influenced by her ability Wavebreaker, which blocks enemy attacks and rebounds damage. However, it requires precise timing.
This can work particularly well against boss enemies when you master the timing of Wavebreaker. It also requires no constellations, making Beidou a good C0 character if you’re still looking for a solid DD.
If you already own Beidou and are collecting constellations with her, her 2nd level is particularly worth it. It allows Beidou to spread her burst to more enemies, thus increasing her damage. With the 6th level of the constellation, she reduces enemy resistance to Electro, which also provides a strong damage boost.
Ningguang
- Element: Geo
- Weapon: Catalyst
- Role: Support, DD
This is Ningguang: Ningguang is a strong DD character. Since update 1.3, she has received an additional boost from the Geo resonance buff, as she can protect herself with shields thanks to the Geo bonus and reduce the Geo resistance of enemies. So if you want to build a Geo team, she’s a good choice for you.
If you want to use Ningguang as your main DD, her constellations are very important for you. Both C1 and C2 give her a substantial damage boost by transforming her normal attacks into AOEs and giving her a second Jade Screen. However, Ningguang generally has strong constellations.
An additional advantage of Ningguang is her passive ability, which makes it easier for you to farm ores in the open world. So if you don’t have Ningguang yet, she’s a good choice at this point.
Xingqiu
- Element: Hydro
- Weapon: Sword
- Role: Support
This is Xingqiu: The young man, as a Hydro character, has strong synergies with Cryo, Pyro, and Electro, which you can utilize to your advantage. So if you have DDs that can benefit from his Hydro element, he is worth it for you even as a C0 character without constellations.
Additionally, his ability kit is generally well-rounded:
- He already deals good damage on C0
- His constellations only make him stronger. His 2nd constellation is particularly important and not far away. It extends his burst and reduces enemy Hydro resistance
- He can support other characters with his Hydro swords, even when he is not on the battlefield
Also, Xingqiu’s passive talent plays an important role. With a 25% chance, he can give you back some of the materials when crafting talent books. Just this ability makes him extremely useful, even if you do not plan to use him in combat. He is basically a good choice.
Xinyan
- Element: Pyro
- Weapon: Claymore
- Role: (Support-)DD
This is Xinyan: While Xinyan herself is a Pyro character, a good part of her attacks are purely physical. This applies to her ultimate ability, which is half-physical and half-Pyro. You can build her as a support for Electro characters or as a physical DD, depending on what you need in your group.
Her constellations increase her damage output starting from C1 with a 15% attack speed boost. Her 4th constellation also reduces enemy physical resistance, thus granting you more damage.
If you want to use her as support, then her 2nd constellation is particularly useful, as it strengthens her shields. The shields are also elemental Pyro and can melt opponents’ ice shields.
Chongyun
- Element: Cryo
- Weapon: Claymore
- Role: (Support-)DD
This is Chongyun: The Cryo character is a double-edged sword. He has the ability to convert the attacks of claymore, spear, and sword characters to cryo, which often leads them to deal less damage. However, he can be good support in the right situations.
- You should avoid Chongyun if your main DD is a physical attacker like Razor
- However, Chongyun works well with DDs like Diluc, whose elemental damage cannot be overridden and with whom he can execute elemental combos
If you want to use Chongyun as support, you should pay attention to his 2nd constellation. It reduces the cooldowns of your characters’ abilities in the group by 15%. So if you have space for a Cryo support in your group and are missing nothing else, then the free Chongyun here is a solid choice.
