The 5-star character Ganyu in Genshin Impact receives a dedicated introduction trailer. Additionally, the developer miHoYo releases official information about Ganyu’s abilities.
This is Ganyu: Although she doesn’t look like it, the secretary of the Qixing is already over 3,000 years old. The reason for her longevity is the blood of a Qilin, a divine beast, that flows through her veins.
Ganyu is a diligent follower of the Geo god Rex Lapis and made a contract with him thousands of years ago, which she faithfully fulfills every day because it also benefits the residents of Liyue.
One unique aspect of Ganyu’s character is her zeal. She firmly believes that the prosperity of Liyue depends on everyone doing their part. Therefore, she wants to work hard to prove herself worthy of her position.
As a result, Ganyu’s greatest hobby is actually her work, and she enjoys putting in some overtime here and there when there’s more to be done.

- Ascension Materials: Shivada Jade, Fluxflower Core, Qingxin flowers, and Vaniloqua nectar, Glowing Nectar, and Elemental Nectar from Valinoquar
The standard attack is called “Heavenly Archery” and performs 6 consecutive bow shots. The heavy strike charges the arrowhead with Cryo energy and causes different effects depending on the charge time:
- Phase 1: The arrow deals Cryo damage.
- Phase 2: The arrow carries a Frost Flower that blooms after a hit and deals area Cryo damage.
The ability “Tracks of the Qilin” leaves an ice lotus on the battlefield that deals area Cryo damage to enemies and can freeze them. It also draws the attention of enemies and their attacks.
The HP of the lotus flower depends on Ganyu’s maximum HP. Upon destruction or expiration, the ice lotus explodes and deals area damage.
With “Conquering Downpour,” Ganyu summons an Ice Pearl and lets icicles rain down upon her enemies, dealing Cryo damage. You can watch a showcase video of her gameplay in the game:
When is the Ganyu banner coming? MiHoYo has not yet announced an exact release date for Ganyu’s banner. However, there are estimates:
- Leaks say that the new character will be available from January 12.
- Some fans estimate the release window to be a bit later on January 15.
After the current banner for the character Albedo is set to disappear on January 12 according to patch notes, we can expect Ganyu around that time.
New leaks are already revealing what could be waiting for us in the next update 1.3, which is set to be released in February.
