In Genshin Impact, they want to trick you out of your account. Be careful of scammers who want to make money with your game data.
Although Genshin Impact is not an MMORPG, accounts with the corresponding game data can be quite valuable. After all, there are some rare characters in the gacha system of the game that can take a long time to obtain. Some players even invest thousands of euros just to get their favorite character. An account with rare characters is therefore quite valuable – scammers want to take advantage of this.
How can you recognize scammers? Actually, this type of fraud is easy to spot. The scammers want to lure you to some website, where you will need to enter your account information. The scam sites use the official artworks of the game and can therefore be misleading at first glance.
Typically, you are lured in with the promise that you will receive a popular 5-star character for free if you register and participate in the event. After all, some players are very emotionally attached to the characters.
Such an event does not exist, and after providing your account information, there is usually only one thing: a bitter awakening when you can no longer log in because the scammer has changed the data.
Stealing accounts is particularly easy in Genshin Impact, as many accounts were created initially without linking to an email address. If you have the login data for these accounts, you can easily change the password and effectively steal access.
What do they want to do with the accounts? In most cases: Sell them. Accounts for Genshin Impact are offered on platforms like eBay and vary greatly in price, depending on the adventure rank achieved and the characters available. Many accounts cost several hundred euros; some even reach into the four-figure range.
Events are always viewable in the game: Even though Genshin Impact can seem a bit confusing with its many menus, you can easily check under “News” at any time which events are currently taking place in the game. Everything runs through in-game notifications; visiting an external website is not necessary.
The only exception is redeeming promo codes. We have explained how this works safely here.
Have you received such scam messages? Or do you know someone who has fallen for it?
