A gamer wanted to buy a GeForce RTX 4090, currently the fastest graphics card on the market. Instead, he receives a job offer that he can’t refuse. He shares the entire story with the community.
For many gamers, building their own PC in their free time is a hobby. For many, this is the alternative when they do not want to buy a pre-built PC.
The purchase of a graphics card has now led a gamer to a job. The seller of the hardware was simultaneously the head of a company.
Gamer wants to pick up a used graphics card, instead receives a job offer
What happened to the user? A gamer wanted to upgrade his system and discovered an offer for an RTX 4090. The price was 2,800 Canadian US dollars (CAD), which is about 1,700 euros. In comparison, you pay around 2,000 euros in Germany for a new RTX 4090 (via geizhals.de).
When he wanted to pick up the graphics card, he was led into an office. Finally, he stood in front of the managing director, where he could pick up the model. He was offered not only the GPU but also a job. The user writes on reddit:
When I wanted to pick up [the GPU], the address was an office. I assumed it was an employee who would just meet me in the hallway and sell it to me, but when I went to the reception and asked for the seller, she said: “Do you have an appointment?” I explained the situation to her and she referred me to his office, where it turned out that he was the managing director! It’s a small/medium-sized company that operates esports consulting, and he mentioned that he needs someone to build PCs!
A few weeks later, I am now working there on weekends and building custom systems for him. I never thought I would get a job this way.
How real is this? In another post, he posted an excerpt from his employment contract to substantiate his story. A moderator has since deleted the image for security reasons. But overall, it seems quite credible.
Not everyone has such great luck when buying a graphics card
What is the current situation? Used models often represent an interesting alternative, as this way you can save a lot of money. Because not everyone is willing to pay thousands of euros on eBay for an RTX 3080.
But many gamers are currently hesitant about such offers, because miners are flooding the market with大量廉价的卡. And some now fear that mining cryptocurrencies may negatively affect the performance of the GPU afterward.
For instance, a user seized an allegedly great deal and bought an RTX 3080, but the joy did not last long. Because the purchased hardware caused some problems that earlier mining had caused:
