To cool his room more effectively, a player directs the warm exhaust from his gaming PC through a pipe out of the window. Other users fear that his computer could be damaged by hot outside air.
High-performance PC systems can become very hot during operation. The warm exhaust is usually released into the environment. This is ensured by fans in the computer, which unfortunately are not always wired properly.
A gamer complained about excessive temperatures in his room when he wanted to play on his gaming PC. To create a cooler gaming experience, he directed the warm PC air outside through a construction. The community wonders if this is a good idea.
Player endangers his gaming PC for a cooler room
What did the player do? The user Halolavapigz shared some photos with the community on Reddit, which sparked a lot of discussion. The images show how the player attached a long plastic pipe to his gaming PC.
The pipe runs over the desk to a window, which he sealed with a foam insulation board. There is another fan halfway through the pipe. Through a hole in the insulation board, the pipe is supposed to transport the warm exhaust from his computer outside.
The costs for the required material are said to be around 46 euros. He estimates the total time spent on it to be about an hour.
Why this construction? The user believes that this way he can lower the temperature in his room. He says the central air conditioning is not sufficient to ensure a pleasant temperature while gaming in the summer. A popular mistake in the cooling of the PC itself was not present.
According to his statement, he was able to reduce the room temperature from about 24 degrees to cooler 20 degrees. He believes that his construction creates a negative pressure in his room, which would positively affect the function of the central air conditioning.
A simple adjustment via the thermostat is not an option for him for a specific reason:
I live with three other roommates and cannot just turn the thermostat to 15.5 degrees because I want to play.

Why could this be a bad idea? Parts of the community on Reddit believe that his gaming PC has worse cooling performance due to the pipe and that there is a risk of overheating the components.
ChungBoyJr wrote a lengthy comment on the issue, stating “it could cook the PC”.
Some other users share this view, arguing with the air pressure outside. This would push hot summer air through the pipe inside and heat up the gaming PC.
The player explains that his construction transports the air outside, and he has integrated the additional fan in the middle of the pipe for this purpose. This fan blows towards the window outlet, just like the fan in his computer.
At the same time, Halolavapigz assures the community that he will keep an eye on the temperatures in his gaming PC. If they do become higher and pose a threat, he would resort to an additional cooling solution for his room instead.
