Former Legacy: Steel and Sorcery, now Eldegarde: The new game from a former WoW developer exits Early Access on Steam and not only changes its name. An extraction game is now a “mini-MMO”, allowing you to play completely PvE.
What kind of game is this? Eldegarde is the new game from Chris Kaleiki and his team at Notorious Studios. Alongside him, a former game designer from World of Warcraft, are 7 other former WoW developers. You can see this in their new project, as the fantasy game is visually inspired by the style of WoW.
The game launched on February 12, 2025, in Early Access on Steam, originally under the name Legacy: Steel and Sorcery. It officially exited Early Access on January 21, 2026, as Eldegarde with a slightly different direction.

Thanks to the new PvE mode, it is now a “mini-MMO”
What is the new direction? At release, the developers refer to their new game as a “Mini MMO”. Chris Kaleiki wrote this in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Kaleiki says: “Think of it as a fantasy version of Ark Raiders [likely referring to ARC Raiders].”
For those who want to experience a kind of WoW with more excitement and higher risk, there is still the PvPvE extraction mode. In this, you fight through NPC opponents, but you may also encounter other players who can attack you. Quick PvP action is also available in the arena, where you can compete directly with other players.
If you prefer not to fight against other players, there is now a new PvE mode for you. In this mode, you explore dungeons, but without the stress of another player possibly attacking you at any moment.
Are there any other innovations? Yes, with the release of version 1.0, a new class comes to the game: the Paladin (you can also see him in the title image). He is a heavily armored tank focused on defense. The already existing classes have also received new perks.
The Early Access launch of the game did not go smoothly, as the current reviews of the game still show. The overall rating is only “mixed” (as of January 22, 11:43 AM), caused mainly by a certain type of problems.
