The actress Gal Gadot was on the verge of quitting her career. Then she received an offer to audition for a “secret role.” The project turned out to be the DC heroine Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman is one of the most famous and strongest superheroes ever. With superhuman strength, speed, the ability to fly, and unwavering fighting spirit, the DC heroine rivals even Greek deities.
In 2016, Gal Gadot was first seen as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Later, her character also received two solo films.
The actress Gal Gadot told in the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on May 24, 2017, the story behind her major DC role and that she initially knew nothing about her big chance.
“I knew nothing at all”
Gal Gadot had reached a point in her acting career where she was about to give up her profession entirely.
She had gone through many auditions where she nearly got the role but was then turned down again. “I’m not sure how much longer I can take this,” Gadot told her husband in frustration.
Then she received a call from director Zack Snyder. He wanted to invite her to audition for a “secret role.” Since Gadot had nothing to lose, she agreed.
She received a script but had no context regarding the story or the character. “I knew nothing at all,” Gal Gadot explained.
As she mentioned in another interview with Variety, she had to present scenes from Pulp Fiction during the audition.
The audition went well for the actress, and she flew to Israel to participate in a small film. Meanwhile, she was still unsure if she wanted to continue working in her profession.
Again, Gadot received a call for the project: This time she was invited for a camera test. She then asked the actress what kind of role it was actually about.
From her agency, she only received the answer: “Did they not tell you?” Gadot denied it and wondered why there was such secrecy surrounding the project.
Only two days later did Gal Gadot find out during a phone call what role it actually was. Zack Snyder called her and explained that it had been about the well-known DC heroine Wonder Woman all along. Gadot was thrilled.

Six weeks later, the actress was no longer thinking about the role at all. Since so much time had passed, she assumed someone else had been cast.
While she was on a flight, Gal Gadot was then told by her agency: She had gotten the role of Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s film.
