The head of Steam, Gabe Newell, has purchased a new superyacht for 430 million euros. It comes with a garage for submarines, a hospital, and 15 gaming PCs.
Why a yacht? Gabe Newell is not only known as one of the founders and the current head of Valve, which owns the gaming platform Steam, but he also claims to be a lover of the sea – so much so, that he now lives and works on a boat.
In August 2025, Newell went even further and purchased Oceanco. The company from the Netherlands builds superyachts and has built Newell’s latest superyacht: the “Leviathan”.
Superyacht with Unusual Requirements
What kind of yacht is it? The Leviathan is a 111-meter long superyacht. According to the magazine Boat International, it ranks 50th among the largest superyachts in the world. Its equipment is certainly unusual – Newell knew this when he commissioned it.
We knew we were asking for unusual things, and Oceanco embraced that with open arms.

The yacht is equipped with (according to PC Gamer) among other things:
- A fully equipped hospital
- Air conditioning systems
- Satellites
- Garages for small boats and even submarines
- An entertainment system
Additionally, the yacht has two fitness centers, a 250 square meter beach club with a spa and a bar, diving platforms, and a “separate drinks storage room”. According to PC Gamer, a room with “15 of the finest gaming PCs ever built” is also on board.
Oceanco CEO Marcel Onkenhout stated after test runs with the Leviathan that it is “the most comfortable yacht ever designed, built, and delivered by Oceanco”.
The Leviathan is not Newell’s first yacht: In addition to the new Leviathan, he also owns two other ships, namely Draak and Rocinante.
In the same week that Gabe Newell’s expensive purchase was made public, Valve also announced new hardware. A Steam Machine, a controller, and a VR headset are coming.
