A minecart and a fishing rod in Minecraft are nothing special on their own. But when you combine them, you can easily fly…
Although Minecraft has been around for many years, it is constantly being expanded and getting new features. However, some bugs and glitches also creep into the game, which can lead to amusing effects. Did you know that you can fly with the fishing rod if you do it just right? We’ll show you how it works.
What happens there? The clip shows a player sitting in a minecart and then using a fishing rod. Instead of staying in place, the minecart starts to move. However, it doesn’t fall into the dug hole but starts to fly after a short time – higher and higher. But see for yourself:
Goodbye world from r/Minecraft
What do you need to do for this? For the “bug” to work in the Java version, you need to change your keyboard layout a bit. You need to bind using items to a different key, which can be done in the options. Change the “Right Click” setting to something like “F”. After that, you can just copy the steps in the video:
- Place a minecart on a rail
- Build a hole of 3x2x2 right in front of the rail
- Destroy the rail on which the minecart is sitting
- Get in the minecart
- Aim the fishing rod downwards
- Hold down the newly assigned “Use” key
After that, your Minecraft will start to accelerate and then slowly but surely take off.
But be careful: Your fishing rod will be consumed extremely quickly during this action. You should therefore equip it with a good enchantment or just try it out in “Creative Mode” – there, fishing rods are not destroyed.
Have you checked out Minecraft Dungeons yet?
Why does this even work? Some users on Reddit are trying to explain why this works. The summary seems to be that the player “fishes” the minecart, which then moves a little towards the player who is sitting in it. Since the fishing action is performed repeatedly in quick succession, this causes the minecart to slowly lift off and eventually fly.

Really helpful is the trick in the game not. But it might provide for a pretty cool exit if you want to stage a departure with “Oh, I’m disappearing!”.
In Minecraft, there are always smaller and larger bugs. Among them are also these curiosities:
- With this enchantment, you move 266 blocks per second
- Creepers are sometimes neutral or even friendly – albeit unintentionally
