In Fortnite: Battle Royale brought the last patch 8.5 a fix that warmed the hearts of many players. Because finally, you can properly pet your pets in the game.
What was the problem with petting? With patch 8.4, a feature entered the game that many players did not expect: “You can pet your dog (and other pets)!”
Immediately, some players tried it out and were immediately very disappointed. Because the developers had merely recycled the animation for opening doors, making your characters just awkwardly swipe over the animal.
For many players, it even looked like they were slapping the poor creature! Mockery and anger over such seemingly lazy behavior followed.
Epic concedes and fixes the petting
This has now changed: Fortunately, with the new update 8.5, a remedy was provided. Because in the patch notes, it was stated that they had revised the petting animations. Players were initially skeptical, but the result is impressive.
Petting animation has been updated, very nice from r/FortNiteBR
Instead of slapping the dog and co., the four-legged friend is now lovingly patted on the head – just as it should be!
This is how fans are reacting to the change: On Reddit, a thread about the new petting animations immediately received 1.5K upvotes and over 100 comments. They include:
- “I am glad they changed it. Now you’re not slapping the animals anymore.”
- “It’s damn cute!”
- “It actually turned out pretty good”

Some found the old animation funny:
- “I also found it funny how you used to slap the animals”
- “Damn, I still wanted to slap someone else’s dog!”
And others hadn’t even realized that you could pet or hit animals at all:
- “WTF, can you pet the dog?”
What do you think of the new animations? Is it better now or was the old animation somehow funnier? Did the animation cause any overtime for Epic?
