Fortnite will soon receive a new mode, which especially longtime fans are likely eagerly anticipating. In that, it goes back to the beginnings of the game.
What kind of mode is this? Epic Games has confirmed what many fans had already hoped for. The OG mode is making its comeback. This refers to the original state of the game at its release.
Many players mourn the old map and the loot from back then. They feel nostalgic when they think back to “back then” in the distant year 2017. Even though the very first Fortnite was a different game.
Last year, players were able to play round after round on the old map for a limited time. This caused a lot of traffic on the servers and was well-received by fans. Over 44 million players made it the strongest day in the history of Fortnite (via x.com).
For this reason, the developers have decided to bring back OG – but this time permanently. For when the OG season ended last year, Fortnite suddenly became a completely different game.
“This is not a drill”
What does the mode include? On x.com, the developers announced the mode and emphasized that it is not a joke: “This is not a drill. OG is coming back and is here to stay.”
Specifically, the original map is returning, which can be played and explored just like before. The loot from back then is also available again.
This also includes the return of the original seasons. It will start with Season 1 and the state of the map at that time. After that, there will regularly be new seasons of the OG game, up to Season 10. This way, one can track how the map changed over time back then.
When does the mode start? As of December 6, 2024, OG will go live. It will then be its own mode alongside the already existing ones.
The announcement will especially please longtime fans. On x.com, for example, the user Quackity writes: “When this comes out, I won’t leave my PC anymore.” Many enthusiastic fans join him.
