Fortnite Outage: Player Search Disabled
When is matchmaking gone? Fortnite: Battle Royale effectively goes down at 10:00 AM our time (4 AM ET). From this point on, matchmaking is disabled in Fortnite: Battle Royale.

Player search reports an error: When players attempt to start a game of Fortnite: Battle Royale, they receive the error message that player search is disabled. In the game, they refer players to an English status website – however, there is no information available.
When will Fortnite be back?
When will Fortnite be back up? That is not known at the moment. It could be back by 12:30 PM, as it has been in the last few days.
Update 12:52 PM: It looks like it might take even longer this time. There has been no word from Epic Games on when Fortnite will function as it should.
Fortnite is back
Update 1:51 PM: Just before 2 PM, it’s back up. The matchmaking is active again! Though there may be queues. If there’s another downtime, we will inform you here on Mein MMO about everything related to Fortnite.
Is Fortnite being taken down due to the PUBG lawsuit? No, that is all nonsense circulating on YouTube and schoolyards. There is indeed a lawsuit that PUBG has filed against Fortnite: However, it has nothing to do with the server maintenance of the last few days.
Planned “Playground” mode likely indirectly responsible for server downtime
Why are the servers offline? This is explained by Epic Games on reddit. It seems to be about larger changes to the database. They have grown so quickly that they installed a temporary solution in February. They have been working on it and continuously improving it. However, they would never be completely happy with this new database. Because this database has prevented certain new limited-time modes. If Epic Games wants to introduce the new “Playground mode”, they need a different database.
Back to the old solution: In recent days, it seemed they had found a better and final solution. But the new solution did not work. Although it looked good, it caused problems. Now they are going back to the previous system.
Will anything change for the players? No. At best, the matchmaking problems that players struggled with yesterday will be gone. There shouldn’t be any changes to the gameplay. But the old database, to which they are now reverting, likely prevents Epic Games from experimenting with some creative game modes in Fortnite.
When is the “Playground mode” with respawn coming to Fortnite? That likely won’t be too soon. They need to get the new session tracker into the game and then see how it performs over a weekend. Then they might introduce the new mode. Over the weekend, Fortnite likely has the most players.
