Sometimes gamertags just fit like a glove. With the Twitch streamer “bushcampdad”, the name is the game, as he reached the highest rank in the ranked mode of Fortnite while camping. He rarely gets kills.
Who is the streamer? “bushcampdad” writes in his Twitch info that he is 50 years old, has 2 sons, and is not good at Fortnite. He camps in the game while working on his laptop. On Twitch, he has 582 followers.
He seems to live for camping in games, as he uses the keywords camping, bushcamping, bushcamper, and treecamper to describe his livestream, in addition to his name.
With his play strategy, he has success. He reached the highest rank in the ranked mode – and that without much effort.

What is his strategy? In a stream from June 15th, you can see from 44:30 how bushcampdad lands in a treetop and waits for a few minutes. As the storm approaches, he sets off for the new zone.
He crouches behind a box to apparently keep camping, but is then killed by a shot from a sniper from another player. He finishes in 5th place in the match and reaches the “Unreal” rank in Fortnite’s ranked mode.

This happened before the new update, with which the ranks in Fortnite were reset.
In the next match, bushcampdad sits for several minutes in the water at the edge of the zone – actually a completely open target for all opponents. Only when he eventually takes some shots does he seem to “wake up”, say “Oh”, and swim off.
If you click through the stream videos and clips of bushcampdad, you see time and again how he is either standing or crouching and waiting. Sometimes in bushes, sometimes in treetops, sometimes behind boxes, sometimes in open water.
“The ranking system is miserable”
How does he react to the rank? bushcampdad says, “And now? I am at position 28,960, I guess?” Shortly after, he wonders in the stream if he can still climb higher on the ranked ladder.
The ascent was noted by Twitter user AussieAntics. On June 16th, he posted a screenshot with the Unreal rank of bushcampdad and commented on it:

What are the reactions? The tweet received hundreds of comments. The user LegitRyanBlake writes: “The buddy found a way to invest zero effort and climb faster.”
In the comments, there is discussion about ranking up in the ranked mode. “Gowdiablo” notes that it must have to do with the general statistics. He hardly climbs, even though he got a win with 3 kills. It is “strange how you rank up.”
trey12_forever writes: “It depends on when you get the kills.” Gowdiablo replies that the point is that he is working to climb and “this guy gets 0 kills and top 3 and reaches Unreal? That makes no sense.”
The user censuall notes: “This shows that the ranking system in this game is miserable.”
Twitter user haruoce reacts with “Apex Moment” to the tweet, referring to the ranked system of Apex Legends, which has upset many players. One expressed his displeasure in a particularly creative way.
