The Nintendo Switch is a practical travel companion, but the short battery life can be really annoying. MyMMO editor Benedikt Schlotmann has therefore acquired a gadget that solves this annoying problem for the time being.
The Nintendo Switch is a practical device when you want to game on the go and don’t want to sit in front of the TV all the time. Here, the handheld mode is extremely practical, as I can sit with the device on the bed or in the garden and game here. With the Nintendo Switch OLED, at least a model with an improved display has been introduced.
The biggest annoyance about the Switch is the battery life. After about 3 hours of gaming on the go, you are already looking for a free outlet again. Especially demanding games drain the battery.
And the battery life annoyed my girlfriend and me so much at some point that I started looking for a suitable alternative. What came out is an upgrade for 15 euros, with which my girlfriend can game on her Switch for an entire afternoon without constantly needing an outlet.
For 15 euros I was able to double the battery life of the Switch
What kind of device is this? The upgrade I purchased is a “portable power bank.” You can use it on the go and also in operation with the Switch, without needing additional cables.
The portable power bank offers 10,000 mAh, while the Switch only has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 4,310 mAh installed.

How does the device work? You place the device on the back of the Nintendo Switch and then let the sides snap into place. This way, the battery fits snugly. Then you can also attach the included grips on the left and right. This gives the now much heavier console significantly more grip and a better hold.
Then you have to activate the device on the back with a small switch. If you are gaming with the Nintendo Switch now, the internal battery of the Switch will be charged by the device. And this is indeed practical for longer trips or during the day.
Also practical, even though we have never used it: The side grips have slots for cartridges or micro-SD cards.
What do I not like? On the back of the device, there is a foldable stand. If the Switch is too heavy for you, you can place it on the table with this. However, this stand feels very flimsy and creaks when set up.
While we’re on the subject of build quality: It would have been nice to have rubber grips, which would have given the heavy device even better hold.
Also a disadvantage is the size. With the additional battery pack on the back, the Switch no longer fits into the padded fabric bag that my girlfriend bought for the Switch back then. While the device is not to blame for this, it can be quite an annoying factor. Also, the device is an additional battery and not really intended as a protective case for the Switch.
The weight is also not to be underestimated. My girlfriend eventually supports the console with her knees because it becomes too heavy for her over time.
The upgrade is worth it for anyone who doesn’t want to be always plugged into the outlet
We use the device both on the go and at home. When my girlfriend wants to use the Nintendo Switch in handheld mode, she attaches the battery to the back and can then sit on the bed for the rest of the evening without having to think about having an outlet nearby.
On longer trips, this is also practical when you are in a train and don’t always have an outlet within reach.
