The fantasy MMO Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn aims to lay the foundation for guild crafting with the upcoming patch 2.5.
Guild crafting is a concept that hasn’t really taken off in the MMO world, at least not in the Western world. Star Trek: Online allows fleets, which are player guilds, to build their own starbase with dilithium mines and communication hubs, but that’s rather rare. In Final Fantasy 14, they’ve decided to take this approach. In an interview with mmorpg.com, producer Naoki Yoshida mentions that they want to lay the groundwork with the upcoming patch, 2.5. The next patch, 2.4, is set to go live this Tuesday.
Those in a Free Company that has its own home can set up a large crafting station in the basement with 2.5 and work on joint projects. In patch 2.5 of Final Fantasy XIV, the “Aetherial Wheel” will first be introduced, where players can collaborate. With the expansion 3.0 “Heavensward”, it will then be possible to construct airships in Spring 2015 and determine which guild members can board and which cannot.
