Rank 5: Susano
- 15.57 %
This is Susano: Like many of his kind, Susano is also worshipped by a Wild Tribe, namely the Kojin. His essence was split into three parts a long time ago and locked in holy objects: a mirror, the sword Ame no Murakumo, and the gemstone Yasakani-no-Magatama.
When the Warrior of Light inadvertently combines the three items during the course of the Stormblood story, the Primal is summoned and directly challenges him to battle. In combat, the Primal uses his power over the seas to call forth storm clouds and tidal waves to assist him.
Why Susano is popular: From the very first conversation, it is evident that Susano is not a classic Primal. He seems to have no interest in conquering the world or gaining new followers. His only passion is combat, and after many years of forced slumber, he is eager for a fight.
And he gets that from the players. During the fight, he even cheers us on and comments on how much fun he is having. This makes him, in the eyes of many players, a likable fellow whose boss music is really cool.
Rank 4: Warrior of Light
- 19.1 %
This is the Warrior of Light: This particular Primal is the legendary hero who is said to have saved the world many millennia ago. He served as inspiration and a role model for all who followed him and devoted their lives to protecting others.
In the spectacular final battle of Patch 5.3 of Shadowbringers, Elidibus finally faced the player character. He summoned the power of the heroes of old and incarnated as the original Warrior of Light with the intent to “save the world” at any cost.
Why the Warrior is popular: Elidibus remains an enemy of the players throughout the entire storyline of FFXIV. As an Ascian, he wants to reunite the Shards of Worlds, even if countless people would die in the process. At the same time, however, his fate is also tragic.
As the last survivor of the Sundering, he is lonely and only wants to see his loved ones again. Additionally, he continuously loses more of his memories until he hardly knows who he is fighting for. Because of this, many players viewed his death less as a victory and more as a reason for sorrow.
Rank 3: Bahamut

- 24.45 %
This is Bahamut: When the great dragon Midgarsormr arrived from another star and asked the goddess of the planet Hydaelyn for admission, he brought with him 7 eggs. From one of them hatched the dragon Bahamut, who, together with his sister Tiamat, populated the southern continent of Meracydia.
There they lived with their children in peace until the Allagan Empire invaded and killed Bahamut. When Tiamat then called him forth as a Primal out of grief, the Allag locked him in the moon Dalamud. Millennia later, it was this moon that fell on Eorzea and caused the seventh calamity.
Why Bahamut is popular: The fall of the moon Dalamud was a watershed moment in the history of FFXIV. It was a desperate fight that players could only lose, accompanied by a fantastic cinematic.
The sad fate of Bahamut and Tiamat left a deep impression on many players. The two dragons fell victim to dark machinations that only truly came to an end with the conclusion of Shadowbringers in Patch 5.5.
The raid around Bahamut, which came with the reboot, is also ranked number 2 in our survey of the best raids.
Rank 2: Shiva
- 28.83 %
This is Shiva: Long ago, before the great war of the dragons against the nation of Ishgard, a young Elezen woman fell in love with the great dragon Hraesvelgr. To ensure that the lovers could be united forever, the dragon absorbed Shiva’s soul after her death.
1,000 years later, when the true reasons for the great war had been forgotten, Shiva was demonized by the church of Ishgard. To the clergy, she epitomized ugliness because she loved a dragon. Correspondingly, Shiva was declared a saint by the resistance against the church and was summoned as a Primal by a young woman named Ysayle.
Why Shiva is popular: Ysayle is a tragic figure in FFXIV. While her true goal is peace between Ishgard and the dragons, innocent people often die as a result of her actions. While she initially appears indifferent to this, over the course of the Heavensward story, it becomes evident that it weighs heavily on her.
In the end, she sacrifices herself in battle against the Garleans to protect the player character and enable him to confront Thordan and his knights in Azys Lla. This has earned her a special place in the hearts of fans.
In addition, Shiva is fundamentally one of the oldest and most popular summons in the Final Fantasy franchise.
Rank 1: Tsukuyomi
- 35.77 %
This is Tsukuyomi: Players first encounter regent Yotsuyu, who later becomes Tsukuyomi, in the Stormblood expansion. She rules with violence and oppression in the imperial province of Doma, and players are confronted early on with her atrocities.
After the liberation of Doma, Yotsuyu loses her memory and knows nothing of the crimes she has committed. She becomes an innocent girl. But her treacherous brother does not leave her alone and ensures that she ultimately transforms into the Primal Tsukuyomi.
Why Tsukuyomi is popular: The story of Tsukuyomi is one of the saddest in FFXIV. While Yotsuyu is initially portrayed as a heartless sadist, the story gradually reveals more about how she became the beast she was.
Abused and sold by her family, she knew no affection throughout her life. At one point, it even seemed that she could eventually be happy, but that was also denied her, and she had to die. The complexity of the character and the tragedy of Yotsuyu’s life has earned this Primal the number 1 spot in our survey.
