The director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV Naoki Yoshida commented in our conversation on the Xbox and Switch versions of the MMORPG. Negotiations with all parties involved are progressing.
What is the current status of negotiations with the publishers? Yoshida has always said that he wants to make Final Fantasy XIV available on as many consoles as possible, as it is possible. Negotiations regarding the Xbox version of Final Fantasy XIV have been ongoing for years.
The “No Crossplay” stance of Sony, where the company strictly refuses to engage with crossplay offerings from other consoles, could further complicate a port of FFXIV to other platforms, but director Yoshida remains optimistic despite the difficult negotiations.
Discussions with the top management
Can fans still hope for an Xbox or Switch release? “Unfortunately, we are not in a position to make an official announcement regarding this. However, discussions with all parties involved will continue.
There are so many different obstacles we must overcome: differences in regulations, views, systems, and backend. It might not always be obvious from the perspective of the media or the players, but we are making steady progress.”
“Our interlocutors at Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are among the top management of their respective companies, and we hope that discussions regarding the Xbox and Switch versions can continue. Just on the way here, I was asked by three different people about the Xbox version!”
