The fantasy MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV receives a nod of recognition in Square Enix’s financial report.
The financial report of a multinational corporation with so many titles across numerous platforms is relatively difficult to decipher, but all the key figures are rising. In the last nine months of 2014, things look better for Square Enix than in 2013.
Even though not every business segment is performing well – slot machines are no longer in vogue – Square Enix earned several billion yen more from April to December 2014 compared to the previous year.
In particular, the annual report highlights several mobile titles and browser games. Smartphone games like “Schoolgirl Strikers” or “Final Fantasy Record Keeper” are a hit, and even a console game like “Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix” is doing well.
In the MMO space, Final Fantasy XIV received a pat on the back. It has made “favorable progress,” meaning it has developed positively.
Meanwhile, Square Enix conducts a large portion of its sales in North America. In Europe, they are selling fewer games than in their home country of Japan.
