The fans of Final Fantasy XIV have been asking director Yoshida for years for a release of the MMORPG on Xbox. According to him, there are two rules that Microsoft must accept first.
Fans have been waiting for a port of Final Fantasy XIV on the Xbox One for years. But for a long time, Sony and their refusal to support crossplay were in the way. Now, it seems that the issue is with Microsoft itself.
What does director Yoshida say? In an interview with colleagues from wccftech.com, the director of Final Fantasy XIV spoke about a possible release of the MMORPG on the Xbox One and the problems preventing it.
According to Yoshida, Microsoft would have to accept two rules from FFXIV regarding online gaming that would allow for unrestricted crossplay between the different platforms. Crossplay is one of the main conditions for the port of FFXIV to the Xbox One.
What rules are we talking about? The two prerequisites Yoshida mentioned are absolutely necessary for crossplay in an MMORPG:
- Players must be able to chat with each other regardless of the platform.
- Players must also be able to play together in free companies regardless of the platform and be able to add each other to their friends list.
Microsoft has not yet fulfilled these conditions, and without these freedoms, a release on the Xbox One, even with crossplay, would make no sense, according to Yoshida.
If Final Fantasy XIV were a first-person shooter, then we could have had crossplay long ago. […] I think we will have to continue our discussions with the involved parties.
Yoshida also mentioned that similar conversations are being held with other console manufacturers. He repeatedly emphasized that it is about “true unrestricted crossplay” that FFXIV needs.
This makes the rumors that a release of Final Fantasy XIV is already planned turn out to be false.
