The online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV is getting a major update, specifically for users of the Playstation 4 Pro. This patch will either significantly boost FPS performance or improve resolution.
At the Final Fantasy Fan Festival in Frankfurt, a feature was introduced that is supposed to make Final Fantasy 14 run much better on the PS4 Pro. In the latest producer letter from FF14 director Naoki Yoshida, there is now concrete information about the update.
Final Fantasy 14 – Playstation 4 Pro Boost – More FPS or more resolution?
According to Yoshida, the patch for the PS4 Pro will only arrive with the release of Stormblood. Thus, it will be available on the servers no earlier than June 16 (early access of the expansion). But what can the patch do? Two completely different things!
PS4 users must decide whether they prefer performance or resolution. The former option keeps the resolution at 1080p but boosts the FPS to a stable 60 FPS. However, whether this FPS number will be locked is open, according to Yoshida.
Those who want better graphics, on the other hand, choose the second option. In this case, the FPS remain roughly the same, but the resolution can be significantly increased. The game still runs “okay” but looks much better – especially on 4K TVs.
For those who want to know what the performance of Stormblood looks like on PC: The new benchmark trailer shown prominently at the top of the post showcased the power of the PC.
What do you think of the PS4 Pro patch for Final Fantasy 14? Would you clearly choose FPS or resolution, or does it bother you that you can’t have both? Let us know in the comments!
