With Dawntrail, Final Fantasy XIV will receive a major new expansion in 2024. We will tell you what is included in the MMORPG’s add-on.
Where does the information come from? On July 28, the FanFest 2023 took place in Las Vegas. In a 90-minute presentation, Naoki Yoshida revealed what is next for Final Fantasy XIV. The absolute highlight for many players is likely to be the new expansion Dawntrail.
You can already catch a first glimpse of the add-on in a short teaser:
A new continent, two new jobs, and many upgrades
What is included in the new expansion? In Dawntrail, players will be transported to the new continent of Tural, with the capital city of Tuliyollal at its center. Visually, the new region seems to be inspired by Mesoamerican and Indonesian cultures.
Content-wise, the new expansion is supposed to represent a kind of “vacation” after the events of Endwalker. Yoshida explains the idea behind Dawntrail as follows: “You have just saved all of Hydaelyn, but somehow the entire universe as well. So we thought we’d give you a little break.”
Thematically, “discovery” is supposed to be at the forefront, with Yoshida emphasizing that “diversity” was one of the focuses during the development of Dawntrail.
When will we go to the new region? Update 7.0, and thus the Dawntrail expansion, is expected to delight fans in the summer of 2024. Whether it is worth diving into the MMORPG beforehand can be read here.
What else has been announced? The MMORPG will receive two new DPS jobs. Rumor has it that this could be the Beastmaster, which has also been requested by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the series.
With the update for dyeing armor, players will be able to dye each piece of armor in up to two colors. It should also be possible to equip glasses and helmets simultaneously.
Furthermore, Final Fantasy XIV is set to receive some major graphical upgrades that will be introduced in 7.0. Characters will be enhanced with updated textures for skin and hair, and reflective surfaces will be equipped with corresponding textures.
