FIFA 23 Patch Notes show changes for gameplay, FUT, and more
What changes in gameplay for FIFA 23? In the patch notes (via EA / Trello), a total of 15 points can be found under the section “Gameplay,” which mainly concern details.
They affect goalkeepers, as well as aspects like tackles or passes. We’ll show you the 15 points here.
There are 5 “changes”:
- Lifted penalties can now only be shot into the middle third of the goal.
- The trajectory of the ball during a lifted penalty has been adjusted to be lower overall.
- The chance of regaining the ball after a standing tackle has been increased.
- Ball speed for all ground passes has been increased.
- The accuracy of lifts has been increased.
Additionally, 10 “issues” have been fixed:
- Goalkeepers occasionally reacted too quickly to certain shots.
- When goalkeepers ran back to clear a lifted shot, they might incorrectly attempt to catch the ball.
- Occasionally, goalkeepers positioned themselves too far from the goal line when attempting to save long shots.
- Goalkeepers sometimes failed to save shots that flew very close to their bodies.
- In some cases, no foul was called for shoulder checks from behind.
- In some difficult header situations, players could miss the header, especially under pressure from the opponent.
- Improved dribbling transitions after a stumbling touch of the ball.
- Some ground passes could cause the ball to move at a higher speed than intended.
- Three-star skill move players with a sprint speed and acceleration over 85 could not perform a feint shot from a sprint.
- In rare cases, the ball-carrying player could sprint over the ball and lose control of it.
Overall, the changes seem very detailed. Especially with goalkeepers, something might change, but the previously praised or criticized points of gameplay seem to remain as they are for now.
But: How significantly the gameplay changes will truly affect the game remains to be seen.
Annoying pack animations for cosmetics in Ultimate Team are removed
What else changes? There are several changes besides gameplay that are included in the patch. We summarize the most important ones here.
Ultimate Team: In FUT, you can earn cosmetic items for the stadium or club through objectives and rewards. When you claimed them, there was always a walkout animation for the item.
Many players considered this a tedious waste of time – especially when claiming many target rewards consecutively. These animations are now being removed.
Furthermore:
- In FUT Moments, some screens before the start of a moment have also been removed. This should save time as well.
- Secondary positions of a player will now be displayed in the top left when you use the wheel menu in FUT.
- Some SBCs were missing the “Untradeable Icon”
Career Mode: In Career Mode, primarily bugs were fixed. For example, the scoreboard could display incorrectly in highlights or questions could be asked in interviews that did not match the situation.
Additionally, AI coaches could sell players without replacing them. Stability issues during simulations have also been fixed.
Pro Clubs x Volta: Here, primarily bugs have been fixed. Incorrect item rarities in the shop or issues where the captain took corners instead of the selected player are among them.
Additionally, in Pro Clubs, the camera could switch to the “free kick view” for all players during free kicks – instead of just for the one taking the kick.
Overall, the patch notes contain several more changes. You can find the full list in the EA-Trello for errors and updates (via Trello).
Finally, at the end of the patch notes, you can also find the message that they see and understand the frustration of the PC community of FIFA 23. Further information and updates regarding issues will be released in this regard.
