FIFA 23: Corner Tutorial – How to score more goals from corners

In FIFA 23 corners are now more effective than ever. We show you the new corner system and two effective methods you can practice.

In FIFA 23 a lot has changed in the gameplay, but the most obvious changes are the new set pieces. Free kicks, corners, and penalties are now completely different and might be a bit overwhelming at first, as they are drastically different from what FIFA players have been used to for years.

We show you here how to effectively take the new corners to score as many goals as possible.

This is how corners work in FIFA 23: Similar to free kicks, you also determine where your kicker strikes the ball for the new corners. This also determines which type of shot is executed.

This is how it works:

1. Select the kicker for the corner with R2/RT.
2. Use the left stick to determine the direction of the shot.
3. Use the right stick to decide where the ball will be struck and thus determine the shot type.
4. Charge the shot power and hope that the ball finds a target.

Important for scoring many goals from corners is having tall and strong header players in the penalty area. We show you two effective methods for strong corners in FIFA 23.

2 corners that are quite effective

It is important to mention that there is no guarantee for perfect corners. However, if you practice enough and apply the right methods, you can significantly increase your chances of scoring from corners.

Control the scorer yourself

This method is about positioning the intended scorer yourself, so that the ball finds its way to their head. This results in much more precision with corners and consequently more goals.

Then you should use this method:

• For just about every corner and when you have good header players.

This is how the variant works: 

1. Select a kicker with R2/RT. It doesn’t matter if they are left-footed or right-footed.
2. Aim with the left stick approximately at the player who will execute the header.
3. Place the cursor slightly aside under the ball and ensure that “Inside (Effect)” is visible.
4. Now select with R1/RB the player you want to score with.
5. Charge the shot bar with about 2 bars.
6. Move the intended scorer a little closer to the corner of the 5-yard box.
7. Now press the cross button again briefly.
8. Aim the header player at the goal and press the shoot button.

The direct corner

The direct corner is quite an unusual variant, rarely seen in real football. Here you attempt to get the ball directly from the corner flag into the goal.

In FIFA 23, this currently works quite reliably, which is why you should not neglect this method.

Then you should use this method:

• When the opponent takes their goalkeeper out of the goal and
• you have a kicker with good effect values.

This is how the variant works: 

1. Select a kicker who shoots towards the goal with their stronger foot. This means that you need a right-footed player from the left and a left-footed player from the right.
2. Aim with the left stick at the goal, but do not go all the way.
3. Then place the cursor with the right stick all the way to the outer edge, so that “Inside (Effect)” is displayed.
4. Now charge the shot bar to full with the cross button.

If you did everything right, the ball will now be in the goal and neither opponents nor goalkeeper had a chance to prevent it.
