The FIFA 23 Career Mode has been introduced and brings some new features. But is that enough to make the mode exciting again?
This has been introduced for the FIFA 23 Career Mode: With the help of a new trailer, EA Sports showed what you can expect in the FIFA 23 Career Mode in terms of innovations.
Here, a distinction is made between the “classic” career mode – the version where you lead a team of your choice to the top – and the “player career”, where you take on your own player.
We embed the trailer here for you:
The manager career has been the perhaps most important offline mode for many players for years. There, you can lead your favorite club to glory, sign and sell players, develop talents and win titles that might not even be possible in real life.
At the same time, the career is often criticized for stagnation, with only minor changes. How does it look this year?
Career mode brings real managers and playable highlights – What else?
What’s new in the career mode? In the manager career, perhaps the most exciting change is that you can finally take on real managers. You can choose to take over real-world managers like Pep Guardiola or Jürgen Klopp instead of a custom avatar.
You can then deploy these managers in any clubs, including in your “own club”, and you can also customize their outfits. However, they seem to bring no special skills compared to other managers.
The second interesting change concerns those who prefer to manage but still like to play some matches in between: You can now select “playable highlights” of a match in the career.
Most of the match is simulated. But when your team has a promising attack, a penalty, or similar situations, the game automatically brings you to that point. You then play that situation yourself before jumping to the next “highlight”. You can choose whether you want to play all highlights or just the offensive highlights.
So far, you could already simulate an entire match, observe the interactive simulation, or jump in and out of the match as needed. With the “playable highlights”, the simulation options are expanded.
What else does the manager career bring? There are several other innovations, including:
- The “Transfer Analyst”. He tells you whether your transfer was a good deal and whether your investment in a new player was worth it. This should help improve your negotiation skills.
- You can now customize a third kit and the goalkeeper kit for your own clubs.
- There is now a more detailed budget overview of your club.
- There are “Dynamic Moments”. These are new cinematics that will accompany the key points of your career. This can involve a breakthrough as a player (in the player career) or transfer market behavior.
- There is a new main menu in the career mode. It is much more aligned with Ultimate Team:
Are there any other innovations? The remaining innovations mostly fall into the area of the “player career”. There are now different personality types for your players, which also influence the stats in the playing style.
You can develop your personality not only in press conferences or on the pitch, but also through off-pitch events.
For example, you can give gifts to teammates, show up at birthday parties, and similar activities. This will enhance the new player career features from last year.
The problem with the career mode: It has almost become tradition for fans to wish for new features in the career mode.
This year, playable managers are something that players have long wanted. Over the past years, there have been innovations like the own club in FIFA 22 or the improved training and talent system from FIFA 21.
However, many elements of the career mode have often remained similar to previous versions over the years, and there hasn’t really been a proper “complete overhaul” of the mode.
A frequently requested feature that some players want is an online component to play the career with friends – or even against them. That is missing again this year.
Also, story-wise, not much has happened in the career lately. Reports about the matches or about your club in the news center quickly become repetitive, and there isn’t much variety in contact with players.
Will the innovations in FIFA 23 be enough to excite players? What do you think about the new features? Let us know in the comments!
An important innovation this year is crossplay in FIFA 23. However, that has no application in the career mode for now.
