The first weeks in FIFA 20 Ultimate Team are important for building a strong team. We show you 10 tips on how to optimally start the FUT season.
The FUT 20 season has started: On September 19, many players started in the Ultimate Team mode of FIFA 20. On this day, early access became available through EA Access and Origin Access.
All other players can start in FUT 20 as of September 27 or with special editions starting September 24.
So that you don’t trip right away in Ultimate Team, here are 10 tips to help you succeed in the new season.
1. Practice the new gameplay in the demo in advance
That’s why you should practice the new mechanics: You can gain a gameplay advantage at the start of FIFA 20 by diligently learning and internalizing the new game mechanics and skill moves. Because not every player will delve into them.
So if you can already do more on the field than your opponent, the advantage is on your side.
What you should practice: You should ideally learn the new game mechanics introduced in FIFA 20. Once you master these, you are ahead of many players. Important mechanics include:
- The new chipped pass (2x pass button)
- The revised close dribbling (with L1)
- Revised timed finishing (shorter window for perfect timing)
- The new skill moves
In any case, also train the revised penalties and free kicks.
Additionally, you can show off with a new celebration. Many opponents probably won’t have mastered this yet.

2. Before the release: The Companion or Web App
That’s why the web app is important: The web and Companion App have already been released. And even if you don’t have access to FIFA 20 yet, you can already generate some coins using the web/companion app.
Do the following there to earn some coins and packs:
- Immediately open starter packs and other reward sets you receive
- Sell the contents or use them for Squad Building Challenges
- Search the market for bargains for your starter team or SBCs
- Log in daily for the web app bonuses
- Complete season, daily, and weekly tasks.
3. The new season tasks and milestones
What are season tasks? The new season tasks replace the manager tasks and the EA catalog from previous years. Here, you can complete tasks, level up, and thereby unlock game content.
Focus on completing the foundational tasks at the beginning to unlock packs and coins.
This is how you level up: Earn experience points by completing tasks. This way, you level up and receive additional rewards.
The first season runs until November 8, 2019. After that, season 2 will begin with new tasks and rewards.
4. Sell your cards
That’s why you should sell: At the beginning, you’re starting with 0 coins and can’t afford any players. Therefore, it’s most sensible to sell all the cards you received in the starter packs first. You probably didn’t receive many cards that fit well into your desired team.
So turn the cards into coins to invest in your desired players. However, you should keep good cards that fit into your team.
5. Utilize loan players
That’s why you should use loan players: For many players, the loan cards provided by EA at the start may seem uninteresting. However, especially at the beginning, you should definitely rely on loan players. Because for every position filled with such a card, you initially do not need to buy a player.
This way, you save coins at the beginning and can play the loan cards to complete season tasks. Once the loans expire, the prices of the cards you need to buy should have dropped a bit. And you should have earned some coins along the way as well.
6. Complete Squad Building Challenges
This is how you earn coins with SBCs: You can make good coins with a little effort and pack luck through SBCs. However, not every Squad Building Challenge is worth it.
Which SBCs should I do? Definitely complete the basic SBCs where you can get rid of bronze and silver cards. Challenges that can be solved with cheap gold cards for 400 coins each are often worthwhile.
This is how you complete SBCs: You can find help for SBC solutions on sites like futbin, futhead, or also on MeinMMO. Feel free to refer to these solutions, but try not to buy the players one-to-one. Many people do this, leading to an increase in the price of those cards.
7. Plan your desired team
That’s why it’s important: You should already have a rough plan for your team. Which league do you want to focus on? Should it become a hybrid team? Think about what your team should look like!
Maybe like this:
Because chemistry plays an important role in FUT. It boosts the stats of your players. And you most effectively increase chemistry by placing players in their preferred positions and ensuring they come from the same country, the same leagues, or even the same club. So think about which leagues and/or nations you want to focus on.
It is definitely advantageous not to be fixed on specific players. Be open and consider all possibilities. Remember that cards with a low overall rating can also be quite strong, especially at the beginning.
You should also think about a strong formation in advance.
8. Consider a “fitness team”
Why two teams are helpful: The big advantage of starting the FUT season with 2 teams is that you don’t have to invest money in fitness cards. These are quite expensive compared to a cheap 2nd team!
The trick of having a second team is that you alternate between both teams. One team regenerates while you play with the other. Thus, you don’t need fitness cards.
9. Play the right game modes
These modes bring the most: Focus on Squad Battles and Division Rivals. Initially, you should play as many games as possible to earn coins for the matches. The more games you play, the better the rewards on Thursdays in the form of coins and packs.
If you have decided to start the FUT season with 2 teams, then it’s a good idea to alternate between Division Rivals and Squad Battles.
Use your strong team for Rivals and your fitness team for Squad Battles. Even though games against CPU may not be enjoyable for many, the rewards at the start are too important to ignore.
10. Behavior on the transfer market
Here’s how to behave correctly: The most important slogan at the beginning of FIFA 20 is: Every little helps! From all the cards you own and don’t play with, you should make a profit. Use them for SBCs or list them on the transfer market. Even bronze and silver cards. Search your club for consumables you don’t need and sell them. Like emblems or jerseys.
If you are lucky enough to pull a really strong card, don’t sell it right away. Wait until shortly after the official release of FIFA 20 on September 27, as the prices for high-rated cards should increase.
No lazy purchases: When it comes to buying players for your team, always compare prices and don’t buy the first card you see. Stay vigilant and try to obtain the cheapest card so you can save a lot of coins.
