In mid-February, the “ratings refresh” is expected in FUT 18. During this time, numerous football players will receive upgrades and downgrades to their standard cards.
EA Sports awards better standard cards to those players who showed strong performances on the pitch in recent months and stood out. Those footballers who fell short of expectations will be penalized with downgrades, meaning worse standard cards.
An official release date for the new cards has not yet been announced. We assume that the “ratings refresh” phase will start in mid-February, from the 16th.

How do I get an upgrade card with a higher overall rating?
Once the winter upgrade cards appear, they can be pulled in the sets. The only requirement is that the set can contain players. The “old” cards of the respective players will no longer be found in the sets from that moment on – only the new standard cards will be in the packs until the end of FUT 18.
If you already own a card of a player who is being upgraded, that card remains unchanged. It will not be automatically updated. If you want the player’s card with improved attributes, you must pull it from a set. It is also possible to purchase winter upgrade cards from other players on the transfer market.
In other words: After the ratings refresh, two versions of standard cards of the respective player coexist in FUT.
