This day is intended to officially commemorate Toriyama, who passed away in early March. However, the choice of March 8 is somewhat strange. On the one hand, it is not the date of his death, but simply the announcement date. Toriyama actually passed away on March 1.
At the same time, March 8 is International Women’s Day. This has led to some misogynistic comments under the petition, according to 3DJuegos.
Additionally, there is already an official Goku day in Japan. It is on May 9 and was chosen because the 5 as Go
and the 9 as Ku
form the Japanese kanji for Goku. Accordingly, there is already a Goku day.
