- Probability of the role: rather low, as fans would expect larger roles from Cavill
If Cavill and Games Workshop were to completely abandon the idea of super soldiers, it is conceivable that the actor would take on the role of a “regular” soldier who rises to heroism during the wars in the galaxy.
While such a thing is extremely rare in Warhammer 40,000, it has occurred before and is definitely a story worth telling. The focus would naturally be on the Imperium of Man and its army, the Astra Militarum, with a significantly more “realistic” tone, moving away from the zany sci-fi.
For such an idea, there are various templates that could provide an exciting basis for a story:
- The planet Krieg and its Death Korps are famous and ideal for a dark war story.
- Armageddon is the setting for the current 11th edition and with Commissar Yarrick would be a well-known name included, emphasizing Cavill’s special status as a soldier.
- Dangerous death worlds like Catachan offer the opportunity to tell exciting stories about survival on alien worlds and the resilience of “regular” people due to their nature.
The problem with a series focused on a single soldier, however, is that the Astra Militarum typically does not venture too far – at least not individual units. It would therefore be difficult to showcase the diversity of the Warhammer 40,000 world, making it more of a treat for hardcore fans than a story that could appeal to a wider audience. However, if all this interests you, there are numerous books for you to read about the Imperium and other factions.
