In 2018, Fallout 76 fans wished for a larger map. They simply want to see more of the world. Now, the developers have released the roadmap for 2022 and are finally bringing what everyone is waiting for.
What is this new area? When the “Steel Reign” update was introduced in 2021, there were already some previews of “The Pitt”. This will also be the new area: the irradiated ruins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
This means that Fallout 76 is leaving Appalachia and West Virginia for the first time – something fans have been wishing for since the release of the game. Since Fallout 76 takes place chronologically before all other parts, players want to see more of the world and learn about the series’ history.
In the roadmap presented on February 21, the developers explain that The Pitt will be accessed through a new hub in Whitespring. There will be repeatable missions with rewards and even new NPCs.
In The Pitt itself, you can complete quests and encounter new enemies, the Trogs, who were first seen in Fallout 3. These are degenerated humans, reminiscent of a mix between Wendigo and Ghoul. The Pitt is set to become an “expedition”, i.e., a dungeon. We do not yet know if the map will indeed expand with a new open world.
When is the area coming? “The Pitt” is planned for Fall 2022. In recent years, Fall updates have been released in September, so expect around that time.
The Pitt is not the only update that the developers have shared more about. The entire roadmap for 2022 in Fallout 76 with 4 new major updates has been presented.
Fallout 76: Roadmap for 2022 shows updates with new content
As every year, the developers have planned a large content update for each season in 2022. The spring update is expected to start in March. The focus of the updates is mainly on events and multiplayer activities.
Spring Update – Invaders From Beyond (March)
In the first major update of 2022, a new seasonal event will be introduced. During “Invaders From Beyond”, UFOs and aliens will appear in Appalachia. In the event, you must prevent the aliens from completing their research.
Additionally, Fallout Worlds will be expanded, the private worlds where players are gods themselves. In there, S.C.O.R.E. points can be earned, and there are new settings for C.A.M.P.s, PvP, and more.
The developers have also already given a first look at the update in a developer video.
Summer Update – Test Your Metal (expected June-July)
The second update brings 3 new public events and some new features for users of the premium service Fallout 1st. Paying players will then receive exclusive challenges and exclusive ranks.
Fall Update – Expeditions: The Pitt (expected September)
In the fall, The Pitt will finally be released with the new area Pittsburgh. For completing missions in the expedition, you will receive exclusive rewards. The NPCs in The Pitt will even be equipped with dialogues, so you can talk to them.
Winter Update – Nuka-World on Tour (expected November-December)
The last update of 2022 is expected to bring a bit more life back to Appalachia. An entrepreneur is bringing a Nuka-Cola roadshow to West Virginia. For you, this means new public events in Ash Heap and a brand new boss, as well as new NPCs.
If the roadmap for Fallout 76 is not enough, you can also look forward to completely new survival games in 2022. The year is full of new releases for every fan of the genre:
