Diablo 4 is getting a DLC: the “Vessel of Hatred” expansion. An expert has now taken a closer look at some data mining regarding this.
What is known about the Diablo 4 expansion? So far, it is basically only certain that the new expansion will be called “Vessel of Hatred” and will bring a new class that has not yet been seen in Diablo. This was confirmed by Blizzard during BlizzCon.
The expansion is expected to be released at the end of 2024, with a closer presentation planned for the summer of 2024.
An expert emphasizes that there is a detailed list in the data mining that should be reviewed again. There is also a trailer for the expansion, which you can watch here:
Expert examines data mining: Officially, little is known so far, but a few months ago there was a major data mining that received a lot of attention in the community.
This data mining has now been revisited by the Diablo expert “Rob2628”. Due to the statements made at BlizzCon 2023, and in light of the confirmed content of the current Season 3, which has also been partially leaked, the leak from back then has gained even more credibility.
Therefore, Rob has gone through the large list of code again and sorted out which information might be particularly intriguing and has documented it in a list (via google docs).
In his video, he also discusses his thoughts on the matter. We summarize the most important points below.
You can watch his video here:
What does Rob say about Spiritborn, Mercenaries, Raids, and Classes?
The expert emphasizes that there were thousands of lines of code that were leaked back then. In his view, these contain clues that show what the new expansion might look like.
But: He also stresses that these are early data. Whether and in what form the content will come into the game is completely open.
About the Spiritborn, the new class
The Spiritborn: This is likely the name of the new class that will be added in the DLC. Rob mentions the BlizzCon, where a lot was discussed about a “nature-based class”. The Spiritborn seems to be a glaive-wielding character with wings, who fights one-handed, using shields and other one-handed weapons.
The lines mentioned in the code also indicate abilities that include bat swarms, flying attacks, and a “Forest Guardian.”
About Mercenaries
Rob assumes that players will be able to get new companions, the “Mercenaries.” They would have multiple classes, and the code gives hints about classes such as “Shieldbearer,” “Berserker Crone,” which would be a type of Berserker, “Cursed Child” as a magical class, “Bounty Hunter” as a ranged fighter, “Scholar,” and “Maiden and Mongrel.”
Rob also suspects that the current construct, the Seneschal, is a kind of test run for this.
New Skills
The code hints at new skills for the old classes: It seems that not only will there be the new class, but also new abilities for the familiar ones.
For example, the Sorceress might get a skill called “Familiar,” which Rob sees as a kind of summon that follows you. The Barbarian is supposed to get “Weapon Throw,” allowing him to throw weapons. This could lead to a ranged Barbarian.
The Rogue could receive a “Riposte,” which would indicate a melee attack, and the Druid mentions a “Rock Ball.” Additionally, Rob discusses new passive abilities that the old classes could receive.
New Areas and Boss
In general, things like the new zone appeared in the leak back then, and now are confirmed. The jungle theme is already shown in the trailer, which gives the data mine more credibility, according to Rob.
Among them are places like the sewers of “Kurast,” the location “Travincal” from Diablo 2, as well as “Durance.” This could point to “Durance of Hate,” indicating Mephisto as a possible boss, as he resides there. Mephisto’s voice is also heard in the trailer, which would fit.
Furthermore, it seems that there will be a new class of monsters, the “Lacunis.”
Raids and PvP
Rob emphasizes that the code includes many hints about raids and boss abilities that could bring potential end bosses. He sees different difficulties, a multiplayer component, and, for example, the name “Khazra Raid.”
There is also a PvP element mentioned, although Rob believes that this is only being tested and may be removed again.
But fundamentally, it is important to view this data mining with a certain skepticism. After all, it’s still unclear what will ultimately appear in the DLC. We will probably have to wait until there is further information – possibly in the summer.
