At the Game Awards 2025, there was a new, atmospheric trailer for EXODUS, the new sci-fi RPG from former BioWare veterans. At the end, we learn when the “Mass Effect in spirit” is set to be released.
What kind of game is this? EXODUS is a new sci-fi action-adventure RPG from Wizards of the Coast and Archetype Entertainment. The studio includes various former BioWare veterans who have worked on titles such as Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate, or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
The new trailer explains what EXODUS is about:
You are Jun Aslan. From an insignificant scavenger to the last hope of humanity in the fight against the Celestials.
It was never meant to be your fate to salvage wrecks for your entire life. Your special gift makes you the only person capable of facing the encroaching storm. Lead the fight, forge your own destiny, and travel with an interstellar crew through a vast galaxy full of wonders and dangers. To save your homeworld, you must confront the Celestials – an evolutionary stage of humanity 40,000 years in the future – and steal their technology if your world is to have any hope of surviving this battle.
But the struggle for survival has consequences… Traveling through space at the edge of light speed can turn your days into decades for your friends and loved ones back home. How far are you willing to go? How much are you willing to sacrifice?

Release planned for 2027
What else does the trailer reveal? The nearly 3 minutes not only introduce us to the main character Jun Aslan and his mission. It also showcases well-staged story sequences, the use of Celestial technology (such as creating a bridge with a prosthetic arm), and third-person shooting action against aliens.
Moreover, the trailer emphasizes the importance of the companions who will join Aslan throughout the adventure. And there is a ship that serves as a base. Much of this should feel very familiar to fans of the Mass Effect series.
What else is known? At the end of the trailer, the developers reveal their plan to release the sci-fi RPG early in 2027, specifically on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). From a Q&A session in January 2025, we know a bit more.
While you play as Jun Aslan, you can create your own version of the protagonist and define him through your choices during the adventure.
