Story and Trailer – What is Far Cry 6 about?
This is the trailer: To give you a first overview of the plot, we embed the story trailer of Far Cry 6 here:
What is Far Cry 6 about? You play as a guerrilla fighter named Dani Rojas. Your homeland Yara has been under the control of a brutal regime for 50 years, and you fight for freedom.
Dictator Anton Castillo is involved in the international drug trade and forces the population to work in the fields. This is not well received, and not only do you want the dictator’s fall.
Who is Dani Rojas? Interestingly, that is up to you. At the beginning, you can decide whether you want to play a male or female character. Depending on this choice, Dani Rojas will also be voiced differently.
Dani Rojas comes from Yara and fights for freedom. If it goes similarly as in the other Far Cry installments, you will surely have some comrades who will join you.
Who is your opponent? You fight against the dictator Anton Castillo. He is portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito, whom you may know as drug lord Gustavo Fring from Breaking Bad.
Anton Castillo rules Yara with an iron fist and does not hesitate to attack his own people. The trailer shows government fighters with riot shields and weapons.
On Castillo’s side is also his son Diego. He is still young, but is influenced by his father. The latter explains to him how to run a country. However, Ubisoft has already revealed that you can also have an impact on the boy. He seems to be somewhat dissatisfied with his father’s decisions.
There is also a rumor surrounding Diego Castillo. Fans suspect and hope that he is the younger version of Vaas Montenegro. This was the villain from Far Cry 3 and could visually already be the older version of Diego. Additionally, the voice actor of Vaas hinted at a possible comeback on reddit. The hopes of the players are high.
Location Yara, weapons, and multiplayer – What is known?
This is the location: The plot takes place on the island of Yara. It strongly resembles Cuba, and that is where Ubisoft seems to have drawn inspiration from. The developers say that their story team spent some time in Cuba to gather impressions.
Yara looks quite similar. Technically, the island is not very advanced, as it has been cut off from the outside world by the regime for years. Otherwise, Yara can definitely score in terms of beauty: You can roam through dense jungles, play on the beach, and the large capital Esperanza also offers city flair.
One could draw several comparisons to Far Cry 3 here. The story there also took place on a paradise island.
This is known about the weapons so far: There haven’t been many insights here yet. However, there is a hint in the pre-orders. If you pre-order the Standard Edition, there is a special weapon and a skin for your companion.
The weapon is a homemade projectile. This is something we already know from Far Cry 5, as you were also able to build weapons there. There are also already some screenshots showing weapons that are homemade, as can be gathered from the title image.
The skin for the companion indicates that you will also have a companion in Far Cry 6. The small dachshund is named Chorizo and is meant to assist you. This was also present in Far Cry 5. There you could call different people and even animals for your missions to help you.
What about the multiplayer? Not much is known about this yet. In previous Far Cry installments, the multiplayer was never very significant. You could play cooperatively, but even then only with limitations.
Far Cry 6 is also expected to have a multiplayer, at least that is indicated by a leak, but how extensive it will be is still unclear.
There should still be some information to follow that will be released before the release of Far Cry 6, but there is still some time until the release next year.
Until then, you can check out other online shooters that we recommend in the MeinMMO list. You will surely find a suitable alternative.
