What’s the deal with bananas? Looking at the trends for Fortnite on Google, one term keeps popping up – “banana”. The yellow fruit is highly popular among fans. But why? What is it all about and how can this phenomenon be explained? The answer lies in a skin that was introduced to the game a long time ago.

Schali – It all started with a silly banana skin

When was the first banana introduced to the game? In Chapter 1 Season 8 of Fortnite, the theme was tropics and pirates. Since the setting was tropical, there was a humanoid banana as a skin in that Battle Pass. It looked quite content and friendly and appeared in various title images where it befriended the character Jonesy.

What happened next with the banana skins? Since the banana was already well-received by fans at that time, the idea was soon revisited. In the following 9th season, the trailer showed Jonesy and the banana “Schali” retreating into a bunker at the last moment.

There, the two had a lot of fun until it became apparent that there were no supplies in the bunker. And as it had to happen: Jonesy hunts the poor Schali through the blender and treats himself to a banana smoothie. This theme was revisited multiple times, for example in a trailer for the merging worlds in Season 10, where a grim Schali encounters Jonesy in a kind of room between worlds and looks at him reproachfully.

Later, Schali appears repeatedly in skins, artwork, and videos – most recently in the trailer for Season 6 of Chapter 2, where the poor banana again meets Jonesy and then is brutally killed. It seems to be a tradition at Fortnite to torture the poor banana in various ways.

What banana skins of Schali/Peely are there? Despite his tendency to meet cruel fates, Schali is a constant new skin in Fortnite. Here we present the coolest skins of Schali (in English, Peely):

• Agent Schali: This skin of Schali depicts him as a grim agent in a black suit. This skin came with Chapter 2 Season 2 via the Battle Pass.
• Schalius Maximus: This wacky skin shows Schali as a Roman general. The set with this skin was available on March 19, 2021.
• Kolbi: This skin is a variant of Schali as a corn cob. It came to the shop on November 25, 2020.
• Bone Schali: For the Halloween season of 2019, this gruesome skin was introduced. It depicts Schali as an undead being, half-skeletonized and dead.
• S-1000: This skin depicts Schali as a living smoothie, which in turn shows him in a kind of robot body, the S-1000. This skin came to the shop on September 26, 2019.
• Ohneschali: This crazy skin shows Schali without skin. So a naked banana, with its pale flesh exposed. It also wears swim trunks. This skin was part of the Summer Legends set from Season 3 of Chapter 2.

How and where can you get the banana skins? Like all skins, those of Schali are not permanently available in the game. However, new Schali variants regularly appear in the shop or in Battle Passes. There is also a set in the shop called “Banana Gang” which will certainly appear from time to time. This set previously included the classic Schali, the Halloween Schali, and a banana pickaxe as well as fall animations.

And it’s also quite possible that a new Schali skin could appear in one of the upcoming seasons of Fortnite, as the banana remains a popular mascot in the game.
