The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online will receive the expansion High Isle on June 6, 202. This expands the companion system with two additional NPCs. MeinMMO explains what you need to do to unlock the two new companions.
What are companions in ESO? The companions in ESO are NPCs (engl.: non-player characters) that you can summon as allies in battle. They will assist you in your journeys through all areas of Tamriel. However, in PvE group content such as dungeons and trials, they take the place of a player. So be careful there whether you summon your companion or not.
If you ever find yourself searching in vain for more players, you can fill the group with the companions of any group member. However, in PvP content and solo arenas, NPC companions have no place and cannot fight by your side.
Similar to Elder Scrolls V – Skyrim, you can equip your companions with gear. Under a special menu of your inventory, you will find the appropriate equipment. You can also dress and customize them visually to your liking. You are even free to choose your companion’s mount.
Additionally, the personality of the companions is interesting. Your actions truly affect the relationship between you and the respective companion. A good relationship allows you to unlock new dialogue options. Therefore, pay close attention to when you summon your companion. Because a bad relationship with them also brings some disadvantages.
How can you unlock the companions from High Isle in ESO?
First, you need access to the new chapter High Isle. When purchasing, make sure you select the right version. They differ significantly in price. If you already own the base game, you only need an update.
Additionally, you can choose between a standard edition and the Collectors Edition. This is not a must, but it could be quite interesting for lovers of cosmetics and trinkets.
Once that is taken care of and you have met these requirements, you can start your game. First, you will need the quest that ultimately unlocks a companion. After completing the quests, you can find the companions in your collection (U) under Allies → Companions and summon them from there.
Which companions were already available in ESO?
In principle, the companion system is not a new feature. However, in the chapter High Isle, there are two NPCs that you have not been able to meet before. In the major ESO chapter Blackwood from 2021, you could already unlock Bastian & Mirri as your loyal allies.

Which companions are new in ESO High Isle?
Isobel Veloise – An aspiring knight with Breton roots, who firmly believes that her destiny is righteousness. From a young age, her will to join a knight order has manifested. She is distinguished by her clumsy yet lovable character.
In her role as a knight, she is also considered brilliant and can absolutely convince with her skills for her calling. It is very important to her to protect the weak and honor the knightly values she developed in her early childhood.
She embodies these values both fearlessly and determinedly, as well as with her friendly demeanor. The seriousness of her convictions can also be lightened by her joking side. However, sometimes she takes a step too far, which represents a tiny flaw in this special personality.
Respected and influential characters on the High Isle already consider her a heroine. They are confident that the ambitious knight will make a name for herself in Tamriel.
Funke – A Khajiit who survived on the streets as a child. During this time, she developed her passion and her somewhat exaggerated enthusiasm for magic. Her character shows slight tendencies towards extremes, hence chaos and a penchant for trouble are not long in coming.
A remarkable troublemaker. Yet, she makes her mark in the history of her peers, as her uniqueness can render even experienced and grounded personalities almost speechless with astonishment.
Material things have little value in her life. She dives from one adventure to another and never possesses great possessions. What drives her is her impulsivity for decisions, which simultaneously fuels her inner fire for magic.
But just as her characteristic temperament amplifies her remarkable talent for magical workings, this very spark sometimes leads her to break the rules. So, no matter how fascinated you are by her uniqueness, always keep an eye on her.
She is comparable to a hurricane: unbeatable in her strength and energy, but almost untameable. It is precisely important to channel a character like Funke onto a structured path, so she can fully realize her potential.
Which quest unlocks the companions from High Isle and where can you find them?
The quests for the two new companions are located in the area of the High Isle and Amenos.
- Isobel Veloise – Her quest The Tournament of Hearts can be found at the tournament grounds of Castle Navire. The castle is located in the northeast of the High Isle, right next to the wayshrine of Castle Navire.
- Funke – The quest to secure the loyalty of the wild Khajiit is called A Tower Full of Trouble. You can start it by heading to the Draioch gate. After crossing a bridge located to the south of it, you will walk straight into Funke’s arms. You only need to speak to her.
