The Elder Scrolls Online has announced the names of the upcoming DLCs and the content of the next expansion “Stonethorn.” But the real highlight of the stream was the new group mounts!
What are the names of the new DLCs? In a live stream on Twitch, ZeniMax presented the upcoming content for ESO and the continuation of the story around “the black heart of Skyrim”. Because with the hefty new chapter Greymoor, the story is far from over.
Therefore, it will soon continue with the dungeon DLC Stonethorn. Later in the year, the story will be concluded with the DLC Darkstorm as part of a large new adventure zone. Then it will finally be time to face the Grand Vampire.
What is Stonethorn about? As usual for ESO, the 3rd DLC of a story cycle is always a dungeon pack. So there will be again 2 special instances that aim at continuing the story from Greymoor.
- The first dungeon is called “Stone Garden” and is located in the dark Blackreach, the “Black Heart of Skyrim.” There, a mad alchemist wreaks his havoc. The dungeon has a strong “Dr. Frankenstein flair”.
- Dungeon number two is called “Castle Thorn” and here you will meet Lady Thorn and her army of bloodsuckers. The dungeon is set in a typical Vampire Fortress of Death, and anyone thinking of Dracula’s castle certainly isn’t wrong.
As usual, you can also play these dungeons even if you have not played anything from Greymoor. You don’t need the new chapter either. However, you have to either purchase the DLC dungeons with crowns or subscribe to ESO Plus. The dungeons are free to play for the duration of the subscription.
When is the DLC coming? ZeniMax only said “Soon” regarding this. Furthermore, the new content will be available on the test server as early as next week. The release is expected to occur several weeks later, probably in August.
Mounts for 2 players and more housing details in Update 27
What’s the deal with the group mounts? However, the secret highlight of the stream wasn’t the dungeons and vampire stories. Because ESO is also getting the freely accessible Update 27 with the DLC package, and it’s a big one.
For the first time, you will have mounts that more than one person can ride. The first of these “group mounts” was shown in the stream. It was a two-seater version of the already wacky Dwemer spider mount.
But this should only be the beginning, and since these things are explicitly called “group mounts” and not just “duo mounts,” there might also be larger mounts on which an entire dungeon group can sit.
What’s changing in housing: In addition to the extremely cool new mounts, there will be changes to housing. Are you bothered that you could only place your numerous mounts, pets, and assistant NPCs as static decorations? Then be excited, because with the new features from Update 27, you can set detailed paths and routines.
For example, you can let your banker roam eagerly around the treasury or program your dog pet to joyfully greet you at the entrance when you enter your home.
What players are saying: All the new features from Update 27 and the DLC have been well-received by fans. Especially the new mounts, as well as the new housing, are highly anticipated. Here are some impressions from the community:
Reddit voices on housing:
- “Finally, I can put my giant bat collection to good use!”
- “Wow, that’s cool. Now I can let Ezabi [the Khajiit banker] roam around the Lunar Mansion!”
- “This is the best part of the update for me. Period! My beloved dogs and wolves were always stuck in my humble house. Now they can finally move around. It was about time!”
Reddit voices on the mounts:
- “Simply fantastic, my friend and I have always wanted this!”
- “Very good, now I can safely transport my beginner friends through Cyrodiil.”
- “This is the first step towards mount battles, believe me!”
