Those who exploit a high ping to their advantage in the online shooter Escape from Tarkov will now be punished. However, the punishment could also affect innocent players.
How is cheating done in Escape from Tarkov? Those with a high ping in the hardcore online shooter enjoy a special advantage known as “Peekers Advantage” in the community.
Players with high ping are not immediately visible because it takes a little longer for their data to be transmitted to the game server. In Escape from Tarkov, this can lead to a player with high ping eliminating a teammate without them noticing. This is, of course, unfair and unsportsmanlike, yet it appears to be exploited. This is a real problem, especially concerning looting players.
Those with a high ping are kicked from the server
How are the developers addressing this? Since April 3, players with a ping of 250 or higher are kicked from the match. However, this doesn’t happen immediately. They have a few seconds to reduce their ping.
This measure is intended to remove the “Peekers Advantage” from the game.
What are the downsides? If everyone with a ping of 250 or higher gets kicked, this obviously affects not only those who exploit the situation. Players who simply have a bad ping will also be kicked.
How are players reacting to this change? Not everyone is pleased with how the developer studio Battlestate Games is proceeding. Some are annoyed that they can hardly play together with friends:
- mark riordan says on Twitter: “Great, now my OCE friends and I can’t play together anymore. I don’t like this idea. My buddy gets an average of 220 ping when he plays on our NA servers, and if someone wants, they could just use a VPN. This won’t stop people who shouldn’t be on the servers.”
- BradleyCold face also says on Twitter: “I’m stationed in Okinawa. How am I supposed to play with my guys from Texas now?”
Recently, the developers were criticized for an adjustment to the game, including the introduction of stamina.
What do the developers say about this? The team has already explained that the ping can also be reduced depending on how the situation develops. But apparently, they want to leave the system as it is for now.
Cheaters and fraudsters pose a problem in the online shooter Escape from Tarkov. Exploits are regularly taken advantage of, such as players becoming invisible and stealing equipment from others. However, Battlestate Games acts quickly against cheaters.
