In the shooter Escape from Tarkov, there was a major outcry. The developers removed an important quest reward, causing a lot of trouble. However, they quickly backtracked after the criticism.
Which reward is it about? It is about the Thicc Case. This box was obtained from quest rewards. It was important for every player, especially for beginners, as it only took up 15 inventory slots while providing 196 slots.
It allowed players to carry significantly more items they collected in the game, which they could then sell for money or store for their own raids.
This led to a lot of criticism, as instead of the Thicc Case, there was only an item case or a weapon case – both boxes that are significantly weaker and offer less space.
Developers receive a lot of criticism – then backtrack
How was the change received? This adjustment caused a lot of criticism in the forums. Here are some player opinions on reddit:
- MEHOYMyNOY: “What a stupid change at such an awful time. “
- Rogue44status: “I hope everyone complains until they change it back.”
- UneSoggyCroissant: “What a weird and unnecessary change.”
What exactly is the problem? Since the character wipe at the end of May 2020, every player had to start from scratch. Since then, some players were able to secure the Thicc Case – others, however, have not had any luck with their quests yet.
The criticism mainly exists because players did not even have a month to earn the Thicc Case. Players who were lucky now have an advantage over other players without the case.
Moreover, the item was removed without prior notice. So players could not even work towards it specifically.
How are the developers responding to this? They promptly responded to the criticism and reversed the change. Nikita Buyanov, Chief Operating Officer at Battlestate Games, wrote on reddit: “Hey, I think it was too harsh to implement such a change live. I won’t say anything more – the cases will be reverted. I definitely didn’t foresee these consequences.”
However, some players are still angry. They ask what will happen to players who received a different case during that time instead of the Thicc Case.
Terotex commented on the developer’s post: “I think the community would have received this change much better if you had announced it with a deadline before it took effect.”
Lastly, Escape from Tarkov made headlines with a huge new map. The map “Streets of Tarkov” is set to appear in a later update and will depict a gritty setting that shows Tarkov completely abandoned.
