The hardcore shooter Escape from Tarkov is getting new content. The trailer for the latest patch 0.12.12 showcases a new map, many new weapons, and some loving details for weapon nerds. However, the fanbase is particularly excited about a simple gadget. MeinMMO tells you what it’s all about.
The Russian hardcore shooter Escape from Tarkov is still in beta but has built up a similarly large and loyal fanbase since 2017. This is also due to the unique gameplay offered to players in Escape from Tarkov: It is so different from most shooters that it is even difficult to assign a clear genre to the game.
The game is set to receive one of the largest content updates in its history with the next patch. Many new weapons, attachments, and gadgets can be seen in the announcement trailer, along with a large new map. However, it is the small features in the trailer that bring the most joy to the fans.
What is the new map? The new map in Escape from Tarkov is likely called ‘The Lighthouse.’ The trailer shows many different zones from the map at various times of the day: in addition to the coast with the namesake lighthouse, there is also a large forest and an industrial zone.

What else is new? In addition to the map, the trailer also offers some insights into other new content. The many weapon lovers who are fans of Escape from Tarkov have spotted many new weapons in the patch trailer. These include the SCAR-L and SCAR-H, the HK USP, and the same bizarre revolver-shotgun that players from CoD Vanguard have already noticed. Many new weapon attachments and small, loving details like overheating silencers have also been discovered by the fanbase (via reddit).
The rangefinder is the highlight in the Tarkov community
The highlight from the trailer seems to be a relatively small feature for Tarkov fans: the rangefinder. With this high-tech measuring stick, players can quickly find out how far away an enemy is. This helps especially snipers to hit their shots more easily.
On reddit, the joy of the fans is primarily reflected in the fact that several of the most popular comments write the rangefinder completely in capital letters. Reddit user Koogei1998 tries to put these emotions into words: “I was just about to say how much I’m looking forward to the rangefinder. It’s so unnecessary, but at the same time so cool” (via reddit).
How far the release date of the patch is currently unclear. The developer Battlestate Games has not named a date.
