On the map “Woods” in Escape from Tarkov, you must cross a peaceful forest in a lake area while keeping an eye out for loot and life. MeinMMO shows you the most important maps for your raids.
The map “Woods” (Eng. Woods) was thoroughly revised with an update for Christmas 2020 and received a rework. Now new tactics are necessary, as the map is now twice as large and there are new Scav spawns and fresh areas to loot.
To survive in the Woods and at the same time loot a lot, we at MeinMMO have created an extensive guide for you, which makes a successful raid more likely.
You will find here:
- Updated Woods map with all important locations
- A Woods map with all extraction points in German and English

- Information about the NPC faction “Cultists” that operates here

Map “Woods” – these are the exits
What you need to know about Woods: The Woods are the third location added in Escape from Tarkov. A raid lasts an average of 45 minutes and takes you to a state-protected nature reserve in the northwest of Tarkov.
Where are the extraction points? There are a total of 16 extraction points, which will be displayed to you in-game in German or English. Woods is very expansive; to avoid confusing the points, we have prepared a list of all exits for you. At the beginning of each round, you can display the exits by pressing “O” twice.

Loot route for beginners
Especially for newcomers, Escape from Tarkov can be very frustrating. Therefore, we have neatly compiled our tips for beginners to help you get started in this hardcore shooter. For your first raids in the “Woods”, you will find here a route that will take you “safely” through the east.
However, be aware that safety in Tarkov is relative and a trigger-happy PMC or player scav can appear before you at any time.
Loot route with low risk: On the revised Woods map, there are many routes to obtain high-quality loot. We advise you to start with a route that experienced Woods players would rather not choose: Steer clear of the action and remain undetected at the edge of the map. Keep your head down, gather loot and experience on the map before diving into the more popular spots.
When you start a loot run, take only a vest, headphones, backpack, a pistol, and a spare magazine. Ideally, you should start near the eastern camp (marked “START” on the map). There you will mostly find medical equipment, which can be advantageous for you later in the raid.
After looting the camp, head south towards the UN roadblock. On the way there, you will cross some wooded areas. Stop here briefly and check the loot in the camp. Before the roadblock, turn left and head north until you reach the next wooded area. There are two scav spawns and a underground bunker.
Continue until you reach a ridge of rocks; upon arrival, you have two options:
- North-West: A camp in the mountains, near the sniper hill
- North-North-East: One of the new villages with very good loot
Which of the two options you choose is up to you. If not much time has passed in the raid, you can take the risk and explore the camp near the sniper hill. There may be some scavs in the northern village, but the loot here is extremely valuable, especially for newcomers.
At the end of the village, take a path westward and walk past the power poles and the mountains. You will find another village that leads you up a hill. The scav bunker in the north can also contain high-quality loot.
Concluding is the camp in the northwest. Exercise caution at this camp, as there is a minefield to the north and northwest. This minefield is not marked with warning signs, so after looting the camp, you should seek one of the exits. Only leave the camp in a southern or eastern direction.
Beware of the Cultists at Night!
In the forests of the nature reserve, a cult roams at night. Between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM, beginners should avoid the area. The cultists are stronger than normal scavs and very difficult to deal with. If you wish to confront the cultists, you should have at least one night vision device with you.
There are two locations on Woods where a group of 3 to 6 cultists can appear. High in the north and in the large forest area, in the middle of the map:
Cultists have also been spotted on the Shoreline and Customs maps. Their boss bears the title “Zhrec”. The special thing about the cultist NPCs: The enemies make little to no noise. You often hear them only when they attack you or are already behind you.
Beware of their melee attacks, as the cultists carry poisoned daggers. If you are poisoned, the only cure is the antidote “Antidote xTG-12”. If you manage to survive the raid without the antidote, a healing from the Therapist costs at least 40,000 Rubles.
Woods is now more suitable for newcomers
Raids on the old Woods map were often intense and fleeting. With the rework of the map, the size has doubled, and thus players are spread across the entire map. With our loot route, you will avoid hotspots at the beginning and can loot undisturbed with a bit of luck.
