In the hardcore online shooter Escape from Tarkov, there was a character wipe, as the developers are deploying a major patch. This is an exciting situation for the community.
What kind of wipe was it? The equipment of the characters is reset to what you would find with a newly created account. You now have to start looking for loot and buying weapons, equipment, and items on the market again.
Even items that were available during free events like the Christmas event are gone. However, you can certainly obtain these items again. Your character does not have them anymore in their stash.
The saved weapon presets and examined items in the manual are excluded from the wipe.
Why is there a wipe? The developers are deploying a major patch today following the update 0.12.5 from April. The servers should be back online this afternoon between 1 and 3 PM. Since the patch brings significant changes, a wipe is necessary.
These changes of patch 0.12.6.7456 include among others:
- A captcha check on the flea market when suspicious activities occur. If there are three incorrect entries, you will be banned for 5 minutes.
- Items not found in a raid can no longer be sold, except for weapons.
- The AI has been improved.
- The stashes will be expanded by 20 cells (2 rows).
- There are also numerous bug fixes and balancing optimizations.
Why are players looking forward to the wipe? Basically, Escape from Tarkov starts anew now. Every player begins under the same conditions. This should make it really exciting again to fight your way up. Essentially, a wipe in Escape from Tarkov fuels the hype because it represents a new, fair beginning for the search for loot.
Loot is the crux of Escape from Tarkov, and embarking on the search for new items constitutes a large part of the gameplay enjoyment.

- McMeatbag says: “When I started Tarkov in November, I couldn’t understand why anyone would want all that stuff they had worked hundreds of hours for to be wiped. Now I get it.”
- Jeri-is-merry writes: “My first wipe. I still have 100 million to spend. It makes me wish there were more raiders on maps. But it’s so much fun.”
- collidedtissues explains: “This might be the time for me to finally start Tarkov! A buddy told me to wait for the wipe.”
