Epic Games has announced that it will lay off over 1,000 employees. This comes just weeks after a price increase of V-Bucks, the in-game currency of the game.
This is the report: Epic Games is laying off over 1,000 employees today, March 24, 2026. This is reported by industry insider Jason Schreier on Bloomberg.
In a blog post on the official Epic Games website, Tim Sweeney, CEO of the company, writes that they are spending more than they are earning and therefore must make this difficult decision:
“Today we must lay off over 1,000 employees from Epic. I regret that we have reached this point again. The decline in user activity in Fortnite, which began in 2025, has led us to spend significantly more than we earn, and we must make substantial cuts to secure the company financially. These layoffs, together with identified cost savings of over $500 million in areas such as outsourcing, marketing, and eliminating some open positions, put us in a more stable position.”
This news comes just under 2 weeks, after Epic Games increased the prices of V-Bucks in Fortnite, because “operating costs of Fortnite have risen significantly.”
