On October 15, Enshrouded will be released, one of the best survival games you can currently play. MeinMMO editor and survival expert Benedict Grothaus has already invested dozens of hours, and with the release, it will be even more.
Just a few days ago, I wrote about how 2026 is the best survival year in a long time. Now it’s gotten even better, as we finally know: Enshrouded will celebrate its 1.0 release on October 15 on Steam and PS5. The Xbox version is expected to be released in early 2027.
In 2024, the game first appeared in Early Access, at the same time as Palworld. Since then, it has received 8 huge (and free!) updates that have continuously drawn me in, most recently over 50 hours within 2 weeks, and that just because water has been added.
Now, Enshrouded confidently faces off against the release of GTA 6 in November, which could hardly make me happier, as I am not interested in that gangster RPG at all. Getting a complete Enshrouded just before it fits perfectly.
Enshrouded has features that make every survival game better
Enshrouded is likely known primarily as “Minecraft for adults”, because it offers a voxel-based building system with full terraforming. However, there is much more in the game:
- The focus is on the world and exploration. There are puzzles to solve everywhere – similar to The Legend of Zelda – and enemies roam the world, which becomes significantly more dangerous at night.
- The story itself also plays a major role, as through quests you learn more about the fallen kingdom and who you really are: one of the last survivors. NPCs you free on your journey all have their own stories.
- Moreover, Enshrouded comes with a talent and combat system that can rival any RPG. Cool builds, especially in co-op with others, offer their own dynamics.
Enshrouded has always captivated me whenever I started it, but each time I held back to wait until it is finally complete. That will soon be the case, and more information is expected to come this summer.

For me, Enshrouded will definitely be a highlight of the year, especially now that I am having a lot of fun with the remaster of Conan Exiles and even have tons of people who will play along. No wonder both games are among the best ever: The 31 best survival games for PS5, Steam, and Xbox
