For most players in Elden Ring, the Stormveil Castle is the first major task they tackle. But after you have defeated Margit and Godrick, you may be wondering: What should I do next?
There is no clear answer to this question. Since the Interlands are almost completely open to you, you can do and see what you like. However, since you probably are not over-leveled like other players yet after Godrick, we give you some recommendations.

Elden Ring: Where to go after Godrick?
Since the open world of Elden Ring is almost completely open to you from the beginning, there is essentially no right or wrong answer. However, some regions are more advisable than others, as the enemies could otherwise pose very difficult challenges.
- After Godrick, the game most clearly directs you toward the foggy lake region of Liurnia. Specifically, the Academy of Raya Lucaria, which towers impressively in the middle of the lake, is the most obvious next step.
- Players who rely on magic classes will find a lot of good loot in Raya Lucaria.
- In Liurnia, you will also unlock the ability to respec your build.
- Ranni’s Quest is also worthwhile and starts in Liurnia, but will accompany you for much of the game.
- In Caria Manor, you will find one of the best weapons in the game, the Sword of Night and Flame.
- If you have also completed the Academy of Raya Lucaria, you will already have defeated enough bosses to venture into the capital in the northeast of the map.
- Also in the south of the starting region Liurnia, the Peninsula of Tears, you will find a lot of good loot. In terms of enemy challenge, Liurnia and the Peninsula of Tears are roughly comparable.
- Especially melee fighters will find excellent loot here for the rest of their playthrough, particularly in Castle Morne all the way to the south.
- One of the best talismans in the game can be found on the Peninsula of Tears.
- However, there is no Great Rune to obtain on the Peninsula of Tears, which is why the whole region does not directly advance you in the main quest.
- The hellish Caelid to the east of Limgrave is also open to you. Completing this region right after Godrick is only recommended for the bravest players. At least a detour into the scarlet hell can be worthwhile:
- In Caelid, you will find powerful weapons like the Moonveil Katana. You will also quickly find the very good and popular Greatsword there: in a well-guarded wagon on the main path.
- The region boss of Caelid is difficult, but defeating him is one of the fastest ways to complete the main quest.
- Caelid is also one of the best regions to farm runes in the early game. There are two methods worth trying: One against a half-dead dragon, and a slightly easier method in the eastern part of Caelid.
- Just because Godrick is defeated, Limgrave is not necessarily fully explored yet. You can search more of the starting region, earn runes, and even find 3 of the strongest weapons in the game.
- You will also find a insanely strong Ash of War still in Limgrave.
- If you have a Stone Sword Key left, you can try the optional Hero’s Grave in the tutorial dungeon, as there are very good rewards there. Perhaps you also have already opened the grave with your keepsake?
- You can also explore the regions underground.
- You will find access to a region in the woods at the eastern end of Limgrave.
- An elevator to another underground region is located in Liurnia, directly east of the church with the lovable Turtle Pope.
These are the best options you have in Elden Ring right after Godrick. If you are brave, you can also venture further than Liurnia, toward the Altus Plateau. Because everything is already open to you in Elden Ring right from the start – the only obstacle is your ability to deal with the enemies.
