Boss Fight: Margit, the Cruel Fate
The actual fight takes place in two phases. In the first phase, Margit is sort of still in “calm mode” and only attacks with some of his moves.
The 2nd phase becomes more difficult. Therefore, we provide tips for each phase here:
Margit, the Cruel Fate – Phase 1
What to watch out for in the first phase: Initially, Margit has only a few attacks, making him easier to predict.
- If Margit starts his jumping attack, roll under him and try to attack his back.
- There are also some lighter staff attacks that you should block or dodge.
- When he stands up for his devastating staff stroke, try to get behind him again and attack.
- Also watch out for his dagger attack, which is difficult to anticipate. It is also quite fast.
The majority of his simple attacks can be parried with shields, but that requires good timing. However, it’s worth it, a critical hit inflicts significant damage.
Do not try to stay at a distance, because Margit will throw daggers. If you have the chain, use it regularly, as you will get a window of time for attacks each time. If you still have summons available, try to save them for phase 2.
It’s also important: Whenever you see an opportunity to attack, use heavy attacks. Even better would be heavy jump attacks, as you can break Margit’s posture with enough hits and land another critical blow.
If you have taken away 50% of his health points, phase 2 will begin.
Margit, the Cruel Fate – Phase 2
What to watch out for in the second phase: Now Margit becomes more aggressive and draws a hammer as an additional weapon.
- With this hammer, he now has a powerful area attack as soon as he prepares to jump with the hammer. Avoid this at all costs.
- Run away or try to dodge at the right moment, but this carries a very high risk.
- Summon your wolves if possible, who can now provide distraction while you attack Margit.
- Otherwise, your tactic remains similar to phase 1. Dodge the attacks and roll behind Margit, then attack with heavy attacks.
You should charge these as long as possible to increase damage. However, this is very risky, so be cautious.

If you want to try Margit’s boss fight and also the following main boss of the Stormveil Castle later, there’s a way to almost completely skip the dungeon.
For this, you need to take another path to reach the other side of the castle. Here you can see the spot on the map:
This will lead you to Liurnia, the Lake Land. This is the next major area, north of the starting area Limgrave.

In general, it can be recommended: If you get stuck at a point in Elden Ring, just take another path.
The game world is so vast that you have numerous options for what to do next and in which order you approach it.
This way, you can find powerful weapons and spells, level up your character, and then come back later and give the tough bosses a real challenge.
