Why is the White Mask so good? The White Mask in Elden Ring is currently one of the most popular armor options in the game. Its passive effect increases your damage by 10% whenever a Bleed effect is inflicted nearby.
This makes the White Mask an important component of the currently strong and popular Blood Builds. In this build, you use the katana Bloody Streams to frequently devastate your opponents with strong Bleeds.

Elden Ring: How to get the White Mask – With a quest or in late game
How do I find the White Mask? To obtain the White Mask, you must enter the difficult and secret region of Mohgwyn Palace.
There you need to find and defeat 3 NPC invaders. You can find these scattered across the Blood Lake, which occupies almost the entire eastern half of the map.
You will find one NPC each in the upper, middle, and lower third of this red body of water. Once the 3rd NPC has been killed, you will receive the mask.
But be careful: If you kill the boss of Mohgwyn Palace, the invaders will disappear forever from your save file. You can only obtain the mask again in New Game Plus.
How do I get to this region? First, you need to get into Mohgwyn Palace. You have two options here:
- Through the quest from Varré, the first NPC you encounter in the game.
- Through a somewhat hidden teleporter in the late-game region Consecrated Snowfield.
Since Mohgwyn Palace is a late-game region and a Blood Build only becomes really good in the late game, we generally recommend option 2. However, you can reach the location through Varré’s quest after just a few hours of gameplay. Therefore, we will present both options:
Option 1: White Mask via Varré’s Quest
Varré is the first NPC you meet after the tutorial dungeon. To complete his quest, you need to follow these steps.
This is how Varré’s quest works:
- Talk to Varré directly at the first Site of Grace after the tutorial dungeon. Talk to him until he repeats himself.
- Defeat Godrick in the Stormveil Castle in the northwest of Limgrave. If you have trouble with the mini-boss Margit, we have a guide for you.
- Return to Varré and talk to him again until he repeats himself.
- Now travel to the Rose Church in Liurnia, directly west of the crashed ruins of the Lake area. Talk to Varré there until the end.
- After Varré hands you the Bloody Finger, you need to initiate PvP multiplayer 3 times with it. You must fight 3 players in PvP for the quest to continue. However, you apparently do not need to be successful in the invasions.
- After you have fought other players as an invader 3 times, talk to Varré again until the end. He will now give you the Favor of the Lord of Blood. You must dip this in the blood of a maiden.
- One of these maidens can be found further northeast of Liurnia, in the Church of Inhibition, not far from the tower of the Raging Flame. Defend yourself against the NPC invader Vyke and interact with the corpse right at the Site of Grace in the church.
- Return with the blood-soaked Favor of the Lord back to Varré, who is still waiting for you at the Rose Church.
- As a reward, you will receive the Medallion of the Pureblood Knight. When you use this from your inventory (found under the ‘Tools’ tab), you will be teleported directly to Mohgwyn Palace.
- If you are only after the mask, you have already completed all necessary steps. However, you can also look for a red sign in the dark cave before you to fight Varré. This will complete his quest completely.
Option 2: White Mask via Teleporter in the Consecrated Snowfield
The second way to reach Mohgwyn Palace is through the Consecrated Snowfield. This is an absolute late-game region, so you can only enter Mohgwyn Palace after several hours of play. Since you will receive the other necessary items for the Blood Build around the same time, this is not a significant drawback.
This is how you obtain the White Mask via teleport: First, you need to get to the Secret Snowfield. To enter this, you need 2 secret medallion halves, which allow you to access this region via the Grand Lift of Rold.
Here are the locations of the medallion halves:
- Right half: You will find it in the village of the Albinaurics, in the south of Liurnia, with the hidden NPC Albus.
- Left half: On the roof of Castle Sol, in the north of the Giant’s Peak. The medallion is in a chest on the roof after the boss Commander Niall.
Once you have both halves of the medallion, you must return to the Grand Lift of Rold, which brought you to the cold mountains.
If you are prompted to present a medallion, press left or right on the D-pad. This way you can present the secret medallion instead. The lift will now take you to the Consecrated Snowfield.
This is how you find the teleporter: In the Consecrated Snowfield, there is a teleporter far to the west that is bloodier than all others in the game. This is a good sign, as it leads you to the Dynasty of the Blood Lord Mohg, where you will find the White Mask.
Once you have used the teleporter, you will be on an elevation in the southeast of Mohgwyn Palace. Make your way straight ahead to the bloody water and look for the 3 NPC invaders there. Once all 3 are dead, the White Mask will finally belong to you.
