Surely many of you have gotten lost in the game world of Elden Ring more than once. One player also experienced this and stumbled into one of the nastiest areas within less than 10 minutes.
The reddit user Hazumiii is a newcomer in Elden Ring. And his first minutes of gameplay will likely remain vividly in his memory.
He posted in the subreddit with an image, asking: “I’m new and 10 minutes into the game, where the hell am I?” The image shows the region Caelid, in the east of the Lands Between.
This is not a beginner area and in its design and the enemies you find there, probably the most terrifying and gruesome area in Elden Ring. His trip to “hell” amuses the community, which empathizes with the newcomer.
“There are no safe places in the game” and Mandalorian jokes
This is how players react to the newcomer’s experience: The post is going pretty viral on the official Elden Ring subreddit and has already received over 25,000 upvotes, with 3180 comments (as of April 28, 11:40).
Meanwhile, some try to explain where the player is with “helpful” comments. Intelligent-Frame180 thinks it is the “tutorial area”.
Several others make a joke referencing the Star Wars series “The Mandalorian” by quoting the creed of a Mandalorian group: “This is the way.”
At least the player would learn quite a bit right from the start, even if much faster. Sprinting is mainly mentioned as an example, or using soap, since you also have to wade through rot swamps.
effemeris sums it up well: “You are in Caelid. I recommend you to just be somewhere else than there.”
Caelid is probably the most dreadful area in Elden Ring
Why is the area so notorious? Although Caelid is not an endgame region like the snow area, most find themselves there in the midgame.
However, there are several aspects that make this region, regardless of your progress, probably the most brutal area:
- First of all, this area simply looks dreadful. The sky is bright blood red, and strange, viscera-like plants grow everywhere. Skeletons and remains of creatures are scattered all around.
- Additionally, there are the monsters that live there. Huge monstrous crows sit on high places, ready to swoop down on you at the slightest sight. Giant monster dogs roam the landscape and often overwhelm you in groups. There are also small, but equally dangerous mutts that can infect you with scarlet rot.
- In the center, there is also a gigantic scarlet rot swamp, filled with deadly geysers and other threats. There are few places in Elden Ring that are as hostile to life as Caelid.
This doesn’t mean that there aren’t numerous other similarly terrifying areas. However, Caelid apparently occupies a particularly rotten place in the hearts of the community.
