In Elden Ring you can dive back into the game after defeating the last boss. New Game+ makes this possible. But should you really do it? What consequences does this decision have for the game and will you lose your progress? We at MeinMMO have looked into New Game+ and provide you with answers.

What is New Game+? The brutally difficult action RPG Elden Ring confronts you with extremely tough bosses. But once you have defeated the last villain, you can do the whole process again. Under the term “New Game+” you actually start fresh in the unforgiving world of Elden Ring. Only this time it has become even harder.
The game asks you: “Do you want to start a 2nd round? “Many players wonder: “Is this really a good idea? What happens to my stuff and progress? Do I have to do everything again?”
New Game Plus in Elden Ring – What you can keep and what you cannot
What can you keep in New Game+? Good news right away: You do not start completely from scratch in New Game+. A large part of your items and game progress can actually be carried over from your old game into New Game+. The following items and progress are transferred:
- Weapons and armor
- Magical abilities
- Talismans
- Most consumables
- Weapon and summon upgrade levels
- Crafting and upgrade materials, as well as cookbooks and other crafting upgrades
- Character level upgrades
- Boss remembrance items
- Gestures
- The flask level and flask upgrades
- Keepsakes
- Starting class
- Map progress – You will have to unlock the sites of grace again
- Since Patch 1.05: Sound pearls
These items are missing in New Game+: But not everything is carried over. You will unfortunately have to forgo the following items and progress in the new game and replay them:
- Great runes from bosses
- All keys
- All areas that are opened with keys
- Sites of grace
- Bell towers
- All quests are reset
- Medals
Why it is still worth it and how to start a new game
Here’s why you should still do New Game+: If you have played games from FromSoftware before, such as Souls games, you know that such new playthroughs are an integral part of the game. In previous titles, even completely new content was revealed in the 2nd playthrough.
In Elden Ring, the 2nd playthrough initially brings more difficult fights. However, you also get more runes. Additionally, you can complete quests that you missed or skipped in the first playthrough.
If you have overlooked optional areas and bosses, you can catch up on those as well.
After New Game+, you can start another round, which is even tougher. This can be increased multiple times.
How do I start New Game+? If you do not want to start the 2nd playthrough right after the finale, you can do so anytime at the site of grace in the Roundtable Hold.
