The new Souls-like Elden Ring was released last night. It quickly became the biggest game in the world on the streaming platform Twitch. However, the biggest Twitch personalities like xQc, CohhCarnage, and Scarra didn’t just have great experiences with the game, as they’re breaking the golden rule: “Never play on launch day.”
How big is Elden Ring on Twitch?
- Elden Ring had a peak of 759,194 viewers at the peak of the Twitch day, at 9 PM our time. This made it even bigger than the mega-popular category “Just Chatting.” Its own peak value came 4 hours later, shortly after release, at 1 AM: By then, Elden Ring had 875,115 viewers.
- At the peak of the Twitch day, around 9 PM, it was about 3 times larger than the next most-watched game on Twitch at the time; League of Legends.
- The biggest streamers for Elden Ring are more MMORPG players like Asmongold and Fextralife, who had already dominated Lost Ark and New World. However, the most played was permanent streamer xQc with his own language, who was on for a whopping 13 hours and averaged nearly 79,000 viewers.
“Never play on launch day”
How were the streams? On the first day, many streams were still riddled with bugs and lags, which was reflected in the astonished expressions of the streamers.
xQc, for instance, called for his mount, got stuck in the air, and helplessly watched as he was devoured by a strange tentacle thing. He ran his hands through his hair and said: “Well, that’s one way to lose all your Souls.”
Twitch veteran CohhCarnage faced such severe stuttering and hitching that his face fell apart, and he shouted at the monitor: “Oh come on, buddy!”
Strategy guru Scarra was just gushing over the game’s glory, excited that Elden Ring seemingly “fixed swimming,” only to die shortly after.
But even if everything goes as intended, it doesn’t mean that everything runs according to plan, as Sodapoppin realizes.

Beautiful is also the clip by Day9th, who lectured his viewers on how fantastic the world in Elden Ring is decorated.
The game always rewards you with satisfying experiences for your curiosity. In some games, behind a height, there might just be a silly chest or so. However, in the “Dark Souls” games, there would traditionally be a great experience in such a situation.
Day9 then followed the path and found … a simple treasure chest: “Man, do I look like a fool now.”
