What are fight clubs? Those who know the legendary film Fight Club or the book it is based on understand that fight clubs are secret, unofficial associations where people massively beat each other up according to strict rules.
Essentially, it is an underground scene of people who enjoy brawling. Such a scene also exists in the open-world action RPG Elden Ring.
Honorable duels and strict rules
What are the rules of the fight clubs? According to GamesRadar, fight clubs have existed in previous Souls games from FromSoftware. Due to the peculiarities of PvP in these games, there are very specific rules.
One player is the host of the fight club and calls forth 2 gladiators and various referees through the summoning system.
Preparations for the fight follow, which often occur nonverbally due to the lack of voice chat in the game. Then, a fight to the death ensues. Magic is allowed but frowned upon. The use of healing potions is strictly forbidden. Anyone caught will be immediately blasted away by the host and his assistants using magic.
The winner of the duel can then face a new opponent summoned by the host after a short break. The reward for this effort? Glory, honor, and respect!
Unlike the fight club from the movie, you are theoretically allowed to talk about it, even though the fight club scene is a special subculture within the game that is somewhat exclusive.
How to find fight clubs? In previous Souls games, there were specific locations where fight clubs met and held their fights. Players usually found them by chance. Thanks to the vast open world of Elden Ring, this has become even more challenging. However, good places that are slowly forming are:
- The first grace site at the beginning of the game
- Near the Boilprawn Shack in the center of Liurnia of the Lakes
- Near the Smouldering Church in northern Limgrave
- The main entrance of the Raya Lucaria Academy
Additionally, according to GamesRadar, there is a place where the developers themselves might have subtly thought about fight clubs: Mountaintops of the Giants.
This mountaintop is difficult to reach; you must first defeat the boss Morgott, storm the capital city of Lyndell, and reach the great lift of Rold. In doing so, you will ascend an icy plateau that stands far apart from the rest of the game world.
