An important character in Elden Ring is Melina. Her quest accompanies you through almost the entire game. We show you how to complete all the steps.
Who is Melina? The mysterious character encounters you shortly after the start of the game. She accompanies you on your adventure and appears repeatedly at the sites of grace. Melina gives you the loyal steed Stormwind and also the ability to level up.
She is strongly tied to the main quest, so she cannot be easily ignored. In order for you to experience all the steps of her quest, we have provided an overview for you below.

Finding Melina
Where do you find Melina? The NPC mainly appears at the sites of grace, the checkpoints of Elden Ring. This happens for the first time when you rest at the site of grace “Before the Gate.” Alternatively, you can discover three other graces and rest at the last one.
When you sit at the grace, Melina will appear and talk to you. This repeats at every encounter.
Melina’s Quest – All Locations
During your first encounter, you will receive your steed Stormwind from Melina and you can then level up at the sites of grace. She also says that she is now your finger maiden. This simply means that she will accompany you through the game from this point on.
You can also decline Melina’s offer – then you will be denied Stormwind and the leveling system. Unless you are attempting a level 1 run, we advise against it. If you accidentally click the wrong dialog option, you can correct the mistake at a site of grace.
From now on, Melina will be available for dialogue at various points in the game. Some of these sequences are optional and primarily provide you with more information about the world of Elden Ring. However, we will list some of them for you.
Journey to the Roundtable
To get to the hub of Elden Ring, you must speak to Melina at a site of grace. This occurs shortly after the first encounter. Either defeat the first story boss Margit or explore the world outside of Limgrave until you have discovered a handful of graces. Afterwards, Melina will teleport you to the Roundtable.
Before Castle Stormwind (optional)
Rest at a site of grace before you head to Castle Stormwind. Select “Speak with Melina” in the menu. She will tell you some things about the graces themselves.
If you rest at the next checkpoint, you can speak with Melina again. This time she talks about herself. She has no purpose in this world but is searching for one.
Third Church of Marika (optional)
When you reach the Third Church of Marika in Limgrave, Melina points out that there are echoes of Queen Marika at this location. If you are interested, she will tell you more about it.
Pilgrimage Church (optional)
If you rest in this church on the peninsula of tears, you have the opportunity to speak with Melina again. Once again, it concerns Queen Marika.
Leyndell, Royal Capital
If you manage to reach the capital, you have preliminarily reached Melina’s goal. She thanks you and says that she will now leave you. Don’t worry, she will leave you your horse and the ability to level up. This step is not optional and is triggered automatically.
Help in the fight against Morgott (optional)
If you have fought your way to the end of Leyndell, the final boss Morgott awaits you there. Here you have the opportunity to summon Melina as an NPC aid. You will find her sign right in front of the fog wall.
After defeating Morgott
After this battle, you will fail to enter the interior of the Erdtree. Rest at the grace that appears in the middle of the boss arena. It is simply called “Elden Throne.” Melina will automatically appear again and say that she will accompany you from here on.
She gives you the medallion of Rold and asks you to go with her to the mountaintop of the giants to set the root of the Erdtree on fire.
Before the final step, you can still find Melina at other sites of grace and learn lore about the world. This occurs, for example, at the ruins of Zamor, the Altus Plateau, or the Great Elevator of Dectus. Just pay attention to the highlighted menu item if you show interest. However, these encounters are not essential for completing the quest.
Forge of the Giants
If you have defeated the Fire Giant, ride or walk up the hill and enter the Forge of the Giants. At the grace there, Melina will speak with you again. She sacrifices herself and the Erdtree begins to burn.
Thus ends her quest. You can still level up and use Stormwind.
Attention: If you received the Raging Flame in the sewers of Leyndell before reaching the Forge of the Giants, Melina will not appear after defeating the Fire Giant. Instead, she will only appear at the end of the game if you choose the path of the Raging Flame, one of the six endings.
